My latest tablet-weaving project, woven based on a 15th-century trim from Siksälä in Estonia, is done. And I am trying out some new style of photos to present my woven trims and belts with some driftwood and dried flowers.

Another project I am currently working on is a reconstruction of the trim of a richly decorated shroud. The original was found in a woman's grave in the cemetery of Siksälä, Estonia. The woman buried in grave 38 was wrapped in a cloth decorated with metal clasps and a tablet-woven border. The burial dates from between 1300 and 1475 AD. This is what the border trim once looked like:

It ist so satisfying to have a newly threaded project on the loom. Soon it will be a trim with a pattern from the Celtic period of Hallstatt.

Tissage aux cartes et au peigne d'encroix, quésako ?

C'est 2 techniques de tissage de galons :

- Dans la première, on enfile les fils dans des cartes avec des trous aux coins. En tournant les cartes, les fils s'entrecroisent et les couleurs se succèdent, donnant de jolis motifs géométriques.

- La seconde consiste à lever et à baisser un peigne d'encroix, petit outil composé d'œillets et de fentes dans lesquels sont passés les fils. De base ça donne des motifs simples, mais des variantes permettent de tisser des motifs plus complexes.

Fierté trans :)

J'avoue qu'au début, j'étais pas super emballé par les tons très pastel du drapeau trans. Je craignais que ça fasse un peu fade sur un tissage.

Du coup, j'y ai ajouté d'autres nuances : un bleu un peu plus soutenu, un rose saumon, et surtout, une lisière bleu nuit qui rehausse magnifiquement les autres couleurs. Résultat, je suis très fan de ce motif.

Cette année, j'enrichis mon activité de tisserand avec la création de kits de tissage de galons !

Je proposerai 2 types de kits distincts : le "kit matériel", qui contiendra le métier à tisser et ses accessoires, et les "kits galons" qui proposeront chacun une nouvelle création à tisser (ceinture, lacets, bijoux, sangle, galons à coudre sur ses vêtements, etc.).

Une fois le kit matériel acheté, vous pourrez ainsi réaliser les créations de votre choix (ou même, avec un peu d'expérience, vous lancer sur vos propres projets).

Lots of little dragon heads: This tablet woven trim is inspired by a 10th century textile fragment from Dublin. It is not a faithful reconstruction of the original. While the original is woven in brocade technique, this trim has been woven with 2 threads per tablet. It resembles the motive pretty well, though: double dragon heads, hence called Dublin Dragons.

I am currently weaving a reconstruction of the Hallstatt 126520 band (in different colours though), which was found in 2019 during excavations in the Hallstatt salt mine and probably dates back to the Early Iron Age/Celtic period. The band shows several seemingly random sequences of patterns, which makes it unique for this period, as the other known woven bands show a regular repeat of the same pattern.
