Masking situation: Office staff were in surgical masks. Patients in the waiting room were not asked to wear masks but most did (all of those who didn’t were men 🙄), and mostly respirators. The hygienist wore a black KN95. The dentist wore—get this—THE SAME ELASTOMERIC I WEAR (a #breathe2 by Prescientx)! /6

Can I nominate myself? I wear a #breathe2 elastomeric! Here’s my entry to win one of the T-shirts. 😀

@luvcie I make them, but just for myself. The technique is super easy, though, and I'd be happy to help you source the supplies! The only "hard" part (which isn't that hard) is sewing some good stitches into the elastic band around the housing so that it stays on.
Do you wear an elastomeric? If so, what kind? Mine is a #breathe2 by #PrescientX, but I think you could do it with a #FloMask too.

@WearsHats @elana it’s a regular #breathe2 elastomeric respirator by Prescientx (@Barryhunt008 is the maker) decorated by me in various ways. I don’t sell the decorations but they’re easy and I’d be happy to offer advice!

@Kuri I wear my #breathe2 to work instead of the #FloMask ("because earloops" is the shortform reason), but it's also an elastomeric, and you're right, when it's colder out I definitely get more condensation, and sometimes it's annoying. I mostly solved the issue by making sure to take it off and "air it out" during the time that I'm walking between the train and my office building, but it's not quite long enough a walk to air it out enough on very cold days. (Thankfully not an issue right now.)

@Geoffberner @Larhanya @rchusid @sofiav The rare exception: elastomerics with earloops (like the #breathe1 or #breathe2 or #NanoMask by @prescientx1. The 'elastomeric' aspect keeps the seal excellent despite the earloops.

@nothingtoseehere I'm not sure about the #breathe2 being returnable--maybe check it out on the Prescientx website? Or even email them? If you do decide to go with a breathe2, my advice is to measure as they suggest but always err on getting a smaller mask (because the bigger-size masks are REALLY quite big).

@DayWalkingRedhead @nothingtoseehere @novid I mostly wear my #breathe2 #elastomeric these days, but I also own a #FloMask and like it a lot! The Everyday filter is indeed more breathable, so it's worthwhile to gauge what kind of protection you need in different situations (I wear Everyday if I know the ventilation is going to be decent, for example). There are also great decals by @Nickelpin that you can use to decorate a Flo--they look super cool!

@elana Right? I of course showed up in my (highly decorated) #breathe2 #elastomeric. My doctor said: "That's a fancy mask! Is that special for us?" And I said: "Nope, I wear this all the time!" 😆

By the way: if any other #elastomeric-wearing locals would like to experiment with this, I've got plenty of fabric samples either here or coming, all of which are bigger than I really need. I'd be happy to share the bits I don't need (no cost). I think this technique would work with either the Prescientx #breathe2 or the #breathe1, but also the #FloMask (the fabric really is very very thin and is nicely held in place by the mask itself).

I'm starting to experiment with super-sheer (like completely see-through and therefore completely breathe-through) fabrics in front of the filter of my #breathe2 #elastomeric to allow for some more colourful filter decoration than the filter paintings I've got. This one is a black filter with a light blue fabric (turning the light blue into a darker blue) with shiny silver snowflakes and a shiny silver band to match. It suits the cold and somewhat snowy snap we've been having!

My latest [#breathe2] #MaskArt. Originally I imagined the navy band with a row of plain silver buttons, but I couldn't find ones I liked either in the store or in my own button stash, so I cannibalized an old necklace I haven't worn in over a decade. I think I like it even better than what I'd originally had in mind!

@KatyMackay I'm using the earloops because to me the advantage of the #breathe2 is that as with the #Nanomask, you can get a full seal without the headstraps (which are always an issue for me--you know my hair!--and if I'm going to wear headstraps, I'm going to use the #FloMask, which I love). But sure, I can take a picture. Do you mean on me while I'm wearing it, or just how the earloops fit onto the respirator?

I've been an admirer of everybody else's wearable #MaskArt (most of all the great @Nickelpin, but many others too), but sadly, I have no design talent. But when @Pentapod suggested using the sort of stretchy trim that's available at fabric stores, well, honestly all that takes is buying a strip of the stuff and some strong stitches to make sure it doesn't pop open. Even I can do that! Check out how I decorated my new [#breathe2] #elastomeric respirator (by @Barryhunt008). /1

@Pentapod @Nickelpin I honestly adore the #FloMask (it's the only #elastomeric respirator that I find actually CUTE!), but as you may also have found, headstraps and masses of wavy-curly hair mostly don't play well together when you're frequently taking the respirator off and putting it back on again. So I tend to only use mine on special occasions. I'm hoping my new [#breathe2] will become my new go-to everyday respirator now that the #NanoMask is on hiatus, hence the desire to decorate that!
