- #TradingPlaces (1983) good comedy fun with #DanAykroyd, #EddieMurphy. contains gratuitous boobs :awesome: and some dated gay jokes :lost:
- #StElmosFire (1985) the #bratpack movie and #Friends precursor suffers from shallow script, unlikable characters and sirupy score :fpalm:
- #TheGirlWithTheDragonTattoo (2011) upright journalist and magical hacker girl hunt down rich antisemitic ripper. too many characters and repulsive rape scenes included :drake_no:

#Iwatched Brats (2024) a documentary by #AndrewMcCarthy in which he interviews other members of the #bratpack about the impact this label had on their careers and lives. It originally came from a scathing magazine article about these young actors, who didn't have much in common until then. This is all wholly uninteresting if you don't know who the bratpack was. But if you were young in the 80s, you probably want to see this.

I re-watched 'St. Elmo's Fire' for its 40th anniversary and it definitely hits different

Anybody out there love a particular movie that you KNOW is terrible? That time has proven over and over again to BE terrible, and you just don’t care?
St. Elmo’s is THAT movie for me.

It’s godawful.
ALL of the characters in it are terrible people, and they do terrible things to other people, all the while being completely melodramatic and self-centred about it.
And yet somehow, every time it’s on, I’m gonna watch it.
Yes, I own the soundtrack. Because it’s terribly awesome.
Yes, I own the DVD.
And yes, somewhere in one of my foot lockers, I have an autographed picture of Judd Nelson.

I love this soundtrack.
I always will.
Because it’s a constant reminder of how awful/great this movie is, and that it only could have come from the #80s .
Sociopaths unite!

Just watched the #BratPack movie on #Hulu. I'd forgotten how self absorbed this cohort of movie stars was, that 40 years later, from their Beverly Hills mansions and costal estates, they still feel entitled to whine about how anyone could have ever been so mean as to call them #brats.

Brats on Hulu is pretty interesting. One of the questions it raises is exactly who is part of the #BratPack. I always thought the members were the main actors in the Breakfast Club and Saint Elmo's Fire. I never thought of guys like Jon Cryer or James Spader as part of that group. They were "Brat Pack adjacent" to me. Michael J. Fox wasn't even BP-adjacent. It's clear that people's answers to that question vary wildly.

We're coming in super-hot this week with a double-bill of duff brats and love rats, and we all try to decided on who we vote on as the very worst (spoiler - it's Judd Nelson, at least according to Dave).
