  2. Your brain lies to you all the time. It makes you think you’re lazy when you’re actually burnt out. It makes you feel alone when everyone around you is busy surviving too. It makes you doubt yourself… even when you’re killing it. #Psychology #BrainHack #MentalHealth #LifeHacks

  3. Do you think this Excel chart is perfect and couldn't benefit from improvements?

If so, don't read below. The same goes if you think all plots in academic papers (and TV news) present data clearly and aesthetically, without exception.

If you have an urge to fix that - good news!
We will fix that using AI during this Brainhack Warsaw (28-30 March 2025)!

"AI Chart Surgeon: Improving Visualizations, One Graph at a Time" by Katarzyna Kańska and me

We're creating an open-source tool during the Brainhack, for the workflow:
Upload plot -> AI extracts data -> AI generates good charts with ggplot2 (or another library with high visualization standards).

We invite people from various fields - researchers, UX/UI designers, data scientists, AI tinkerers, software engineers and anyone dealing with data visualization. This is a cross-disciplinary effort - diverse skills and perspectives are crucial! Especially welcome are students, scientists, and activists working with data.

    Application Deadline: 7 March 2025
Note: Previous workshops filled up well before the deadline, so act fast! You need to register on the Brainhack website and complete a qualification task: find a publicly shared chart, explain what's wrong with it and how to fix it (bonus points for actually remaking it).

  14. Michal Jaskolski and I are excited to invite you to a unique hackathon research project at Brainhack Warsaw (15-17 Mar 2024), exploring the intriguing intersection of AI and human psychology:
🧠 "Can AI diagnose mental conditions within a single conversation?"

In 2013, simpler machine learning models could predict personality from as few as 10 Facebook likes, more accurately than a work colleague, and with 300 likes, better than a spouse. We seek to discover the extent of advancements possible with far more sophisticated AI and richer data.

Und alle, die das hören, werden denken, das wird in dem Lied wirklich gesungen. Auch wenn man es danach nicht mehr mitsingt.

  18. Refactored last week's #ohbm #brainhack project (which you might recall was a mobile brain scan viewer using React Native / Expo Go) to upload the voxel data as a 3d texture so that it can do everything on the GPU, and only needs to send the slice number to the shader after the initial setup instead of needing to look up / send the intensity for every pixel on the screen. It's super responsive now.

  21. #brainhack 2023 is about to start! Can't wait to reunite with fellow brainhackers for the first time in person since 4 years. There's going to be some serious (neuro) collaboration in action going on!! The event is hybrid and you can join from anywhere in the world ohbm.github.io/hackathon2023/

  22. If you're #procrastinating on a thing:

Can you make it smaller? ✂️
Achieve already a "tiny" part of it? 🥳

That sense of achievement can unlock more mental energy to tackle the rest. 🚀

  23. For this year's #brainhack we setup jupyterhub servers with Neurodesk installed in 3 geographic regions sponsored by Oracle Cloud:
    - Asia/Pacific: bhsydney.neurodesk.org/
    - Europe: bheurope.neurodesk.org/
    - North America: bhnam.neurodesk.org/

Authentication is via github, every user has 50GB of persistent storage, the compute instances have 32 cores, 256GB of RAM and we are super keen to get feedback on this :)

  24. @r3rt0 @pierre_bellec @k4tj4 yes, local hubs like #brainhack are perfect - it keeps the costs and the carbon footprint down :) another great example is #MRITogether - a virtual event with events in every timezone.

  29. CW: Is anyone out there interested in Bayesian mixture modelling of fMRI data?

Gang Chen (at AFNI) and I are running a project on a python implementation at this year's Brainhack. If you're keen to join us, or the Brainhack, get in touch.
