Do U.S. voters realize the scale and cost of the 47th #POTUS's *drastic* #immigration "slow-walking"?
This backlog is bigger than ALL FOUR YEARS of the 45th POTUS's term.
It's stopped TONS of #science by removing work authorization from LOADS of #scientists who were ALREADY LEGALLY WORKING HERE FOR YEARS (e.g., when graduating Ph.D. #students or #postdocs have to transition to an H-1B #visa when OPT expires).
We had to halt multiple #decisionScience projects when a Research Project Manager completed their doctorate. Why? Because #USCIS simply isn't processing certain #OPT applications — and #H1B processing is much slower than normal times. In the past year, the #UnitedStates multiplied this loss of #innovation and #productivity by HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS! And with no detectable benefit to #security, etc.
Naturally, the highest-skilled foreign nationals are taking their skills to other countries, contributing to further #brainDrain from the #USA.
Incredible waste and inefficiency.

Sicher ist nur die Unsicherheit – #Spendenaufruf für Abdalah
Am Dienstag, den 7. November wurde unser Freund #Abdalah nach #Ghana abgeschoben. Zusammen mit fünf Geflüchteten hatte er 2020 gegen die #Hausordnung in der #Landeserstaufnahmeeinrichtung #Freiburg geklagt. Der #Prozess ist weiterhin vor dem #Verwaltungsgericht Freiburg anhängig. Wir protestieren gegen den #Abschiebewahn und rufen zu Spenden für Abdalah auf.
Die #Polizei holte Abdalah am Montagabend in seiner Unterkunft ab, er verbrachte die Nacht auf der Polizeistation. Am Dienstagmorgen wurde er in München um 7 Uhr zusammen mit anderen Geflüchteten in einen Charter-Flug gezwungen. Für Abdalah ist die #Abschiebung das bittere Ende seiner #Flucht nach Europa. 2007 floh er aus Ghana, überquerte 2011 das Mittelmeer und schlug sich danach in #Italien als #Taxifahrer durch. 2019 erreichte er Deutschland. Nirgendwo konnte er sich sicher sein.
Normalerweise muss der deutsche Staat im #Asylverfahren den Geflüchteten nachweisen, dass sie in ihrem #Herkunftsland nicht verfolgt wurden. Da Ghana als sogenanntes sicheres Herkunftsland eingestuft ist, musste Abdalah mit seinem #Asylantrag gegen die staatliche Vorannahme argumentieren, dass Ghana komplett sicher sei. Diese #Beweislastumkehr führt bei Menschen aus sogenannten sicheren Herkunftsländern zu niedrigen Anerkennungsquoten – auch Abdalahs Asylantrag wurde als offensichtlich unbegründet abgelehnt.
In Ghana steht #Homosexualität unter Strafe, wiederholt kam es zu polizeilichen Übergriffen bei Demonstrationen sowie Einschüchterungen und Strafen gegenüber unabhängigen Journalist*innen. Entgegen ähnlichen Einwänden sollen aktuell #Georgien und #Moldau zu sicheren Herkunftsländern deklariert werden. Das zeigt: Mit der Realität vor Ort hat die Einstufung nichts zu tun. Dafür werden Geflüchtete aus diesen Ländern in #Deutschland dazu verpflichtet, bis zu ihrer Abschiebung in #Aufnahmelagern zu wohnen. Sie haben nur eine Woche Zeit, um gegen die Ablehnung ihres Asylantrags zu klagen und unterliegen einem #Arbeitsverbot, das ein Bleiberecht über eine A#usbildung verunmöglicht. Das eigentliche Ziel dieser Konstruktion ist #Migrationsverhinderung durch #Entrechtung.
Abdalahs Abschiebung muss auch im Kontext des aktuellen Abschiebewahns gesehen werden. Mit Unterstützung Deutschlands reicht es der EU nicht, Geflüchtete mit #Schallkanonen zu beschießen. Per #Migrationsabkommen werden Nicht-EU-Staaten dafür bezahlt, die Geflüchteten schon außerhalb Europas in die Wüste zu schicken. Wer wie Abdalah diesen Horror überlebt, darf dann auch in Deutschland nicht zur Ruhe kommen. Schon heute finden #PushBacks an der bayrischen Grenze statt, schon heute ist jeder zweite #Abschiebehaft-Gefangene zu Unrecht in Haft, schon heute erhalten Geflüchtete häufig weniger #Sozialleistungen als nach dem gesetzlichen #Existenzminimum. Mit dem neuen #Gesetzespaket der #Bundesregierung soll all das nun erneut verschärft werden. Getrieben von der Vorstellung, Geflüchtete würden ihre Flucht nach Deutschland abbrechen, wenn sie erfahren, dass sie in Deutschland #Sozialleistungen nur noch per Bezahlkarte erhalten.
Diese offenkundige Irrationalität verwundert nicht, weil es der Politik vor allem darum geht, Handlungsmacht zu suggerieren und dem ohnehin schäumenden Volk nach dem Mund zu reden. Dass sich ausgerechnet #Arbeitgeberverbände für #Bleiberechtsregelungen aussprechen und die Politik an die eigenen Staatsinteressen einer funktionierenden #Wirtschaft erinnern, zeigt wie sehr die bürgernahe Politik von ihrem rassistischen Wahn beseelt ist. Ist das #Asylrecht erstmal vollständig abgeschafft, wird der Traum der reinen Selektion wahr: Deutschland den Deutschen (und ihren hochqualifizierten Fachkräften aus dem Ausland).
Ende Oktober war Bundeskanzler #Scholz in Ghana, um #Fachkräfte abzuwerben. Dabei wurde er mit Student*innen konfrontiert, die sich gegen diesen #Braindrain wehren. Abdalah war schon hier und hat bis zu seinem Arbeitsverbot in einem Hotel gearbeitet. Trotz seiner prekären Situation hat er den Mut aufgebracht, sich politisch gegen seine Entrechtung einzusetzen und bessere Lebensbedingungen für alle Geflüchteten einzuklagen. 12 Jahre hat Abdalah versucht, sich in #Europa ein eigenes Leben aufzubauen. Die Abschiebung zerstört diese Möglichkeit. Noch auf der Polizeistation sagt er am Telefon, dass er in Ghana nicht bleiben kann und sich bald wieder auf den lebensgefährlichen Weg nach #Lybien machen will. Dass Schutzsuchende wie Abdalah hin und her geschleudert werden, ist das Ergebnis einer rassistischen Ideologie, die weiterhin der Kritik bedarf. Wir protestieren gegen diesen Wahn und rufen zu Spenden für Abdalah auf.
