  1. First church service in the hall today — and what a joy it was! All my pre-service nerves melted away the moment I recognised the anthem. Had to grab the lyrics online (no Braille copy on hand), but it all came together beautifully. My fellow scholar and I are navigating things together while we're without a director, including choosing the anthem each week and working out who sings the gospel acclamation. Singing in that hall was something else — the resonance was incredible. Now, a well-earned restful afternoon. 🎶✝️

  5. Sooooo... thinking about the possibility and feasibility of big life changes, namely studying opera seriously in Europe. Would love to connect with other #Blind language learners, especially those using #braille as a component of their learning. Currently learning #French. Am particularly interested in chatting with people who have taught themselves grade 2 French Braille as well as those who are either conversational or fluent and/or who have worked in or currently live in a #Francophone European country. If this is you or you're in any way adjacent to this world, please reach out. Would love to talk to you. Would also love to chat with people who use #MusicBraille / #BrailleMusic in Europe.

  6. I am still sick and spent the morning outside getting some fresh air. Had an egg and bacon roll and yoghurt for lunch. Came home and enjoyed a rather robust tutorial this afternoon on assessment of bi-directional communication needs. After a dinner of sausages, mashed potatoes and silverbeet, I am relaxing. I am trying to learn the alto part to Ave Maria by Franz Liszt while I wait for my Braille copy, which probably will not arrive until late Saturday. I am thankful to have someone to transcribe, but I struggle with the nerves of having to sight-read on the day, which sends my anxiety levels up. #AutisticMusician #ChoralSinging #BrailleMusic #Anxiety

  11. It’s been an intense few weeks. As of two weeks ago, I am no contact with my mother, meaning I am now estranged from my entire family of origin. This has brought a wave of grief and emotions. I’m incredibly grateful for my online support group, support workers, therapist, hubby, and three children, who have been unwavering in their support.

I’ve just returned from a Braille music retreat in NZ—four glorious days of music-making! I’ve attached a recording of my performance from the retreat.

I’m also looking ahead to starting my master’s in counselling at the end of February. My specialty will be mental health counselling, and I’m excited for the research opportunities it will bring, paving the way for my PhD.

My goals for 2025, apart from study, are to join a Bible study group again (our church doesn’t currently have one) and to find a few in-real-life friends, as I currently don’t have any.

  12. Thanks to @FreakyFwoof and the rest of the #SoundWithoutSight crew for a very enlightening discussion on learning #Music as a #Blind #musician. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys have in store for next month! #Accessibility #Brl #BrailleMusic
