  3. A splendid cold walk to Fiddlers Gill to see the fab but rusting Victorian #Braidwood Telescope! Once part of the now long-gone Lanark Observatory, its optics are safe at the Lanark Museum. Sadly I see no hope in restoring this beauty tho, that's been long-abandoned in this field ☹️ #histsci 🔭🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  5. Telopea mongaensis (Monga waratah) in Monga National Park, Monga, NSW ... #Monga ;)

I really like this waratah as a garden plant but rarely see it available in nurseries. It is used in some modern hybrids to give the 'classic' NSW waratah (T. speciosissima) a bit more cold tolerance with a compact/bushy habit.

  11. @SydneyCityTV Today we listened to Braidwood FM for a few hours, and it really inspired the need for a #Sizzletown-type podcast

We heard the weather report — here it is verbatim: “Currently it is 19 degrees.”

But they pay for AIR news and sport, and they have a full music service — following two tracks from Cardi B and Lil Nas, we got a country music single and then some Pet Shop Boys.

That’s the kind of variety a mainstream regional AM station can only dream of #braidwood

  12. Cool article about the Hidden Books movement. It's a bit like geocaching meets little free libraries, with a focus on kids' books. I love the idea of discovering books tucked away in secret spaces around the city, like magical items in an RPG!

  14. Does anyone remember #BookCrossing? I wonder if it is still a thing. 📖

It was about leaving a book in a public place so that it would be found by a stranger. You would attach a label to the book prior to its 'release' that included a unique code called BCID (bookcrossing.com/howto). So when found, the person would hopefully enter the code in the #BookCrossing Website and it would create a trail of the book, which eventually should be 'released' for the next person. Or something like that...

I remember leaving quite a few books in park benches. But I never received a ping about their location, so I supposed they were lost or thrown to the garbage.

Anyway, it seems that they are trying something somewhat similar in the #NSW town of #Braidwood, with the idea of motivating kids to read books 👍
