One of the local newspapers (The Vancouver Sun) reached out to me after I contacted them about Boy George's upcoming concert at the PNE and PNE basically saying I'm free to not come and watch him.
They said they are writing a "brief" piece and wanted an interview. I'm an absolute flusterbucket on the phone so I was hesitant to accept given the delicate nature of the topic.
So instead I gave them a statement, no idea if they will include it:

I woke up two days ago to the new Boy George song, “We Will Dance Again,” and my heart swelled. So heavy for everything it filled me with. Love. Pride. Love for him for doing this at all. And underneath it, the heaviness of what happened on October 7th, sitting where it always sits.
The pride, the trust, the appreciation that he would sing loudly for us. As a human. As an individual. With his fame, which he could so easily have kept quiet and safe.
And I felt sad that we need it at all. That we need people to stand. We will always be resilient, that has never been the question. But God, how this felt good. And how sad, at the very same time.
I want to scream this song from the highest mountain. To use it as a healing melody. To bring peace. To soothe our pain.
Thank you, a million times over, for this gift. We love you. We need champions on the outside too, voices that are not our own raised on our behalf, and you are one of them.
