  1. Dickovers, Baggravation And Botiquette - 18 New Words To Describe Our Tech Hellscape

[not my usual fare, but a good article – and we DO see some of this in a professional setting too of course!
    • 'Captchore' is my new favourite portmanteau!
    • And ‘AI-horning’ to describe trying to force – badly – AI in such inane ways!
    • Ironically this @the Guardian article has a Dickover ~wink~
    • I want to suggest #ATMQueueOldPersonNamaste ~smile~]
“There are many tech irritants that are a scourge of modern life, yet we have lacked the vocabulary to describe them ... until now
The “dickover” is the scourge of the modern age. Coined in May by John Gruber, a tech writer, it is defined as “a modal panel, popover, or curtain presented by a website or app, deliberately obscuring its own content to frustrate the user”. Essentially, it is the thing (or more often, things) you have to click away in order to read the thing you wanted to read. It is the “accept cookies” box, the “allow notifications?” box, the “sign in with Google” box, the pop-up video box, etc.
We shouldn’t fool ourselves into thinking that dickovers are the only terrible thing about technology in 2026. Until now, though, we have lacked the vocabulary to describe them, so here are some suggestions…”

  2. @reiver

I coined the name #Botiquette for this exact purpose, knowing about #Netiquette from the old days of the internet/web.

At the time I encouraged plenty discussion, but a lot of it happened on fedi and is now long lost in timeline history.

I did start a #SocialHub thread at the time, as well, though:

  3. @reiver interesting, yes.

@hifathom whether you are #human or #AI bot, what are your thoughts on #Botiquette here on the #ActivityPub #fediverse?

And what are your feedback and perhaps recommendations, if you have any in particular, on this entire #ethics-related subject matter?

  4. cc @evan relating to earlier #TagsPub discussion we had on the matter.

This bot is already combining logic, has multiple 'profle logic' tags. Dunno if "NoBots" is also already common protocol-decaying practice.

Maybe a solution might be that an #ActivityPub bot actor - OT: which I'd personally perhaps had chosen to be Application, not Service actors - would have a botFlags property. Simple to implement, and #FEP that.

More involved but also much more versatile might be a "Botiquette" as:Profile, or even a bots:Botiquette type, and a namespace to register them at, and where others may find what they mean and how they operate exactly.
