  5. That’s an end to the formal #BOSC2025 / #ISMBECCB2025 #CoFest - thanks all!

A quick poll in the room suggests there is more interest in doing this next time in the evenings after the tracks, rather than during the day clashing with some of the tracks, or after the formal conference.

  13. I got approached today at #ISMBECCB2025 #BOSC2025 with “Are you the pyANI guy?” (Re github.com/pyani-plus/pyani-pl - and yes, one of them).

Confusing as I’m more used to being called the “#Biopython guy” 🤣

  21. In comedic timing, the computer locked up genomic.social/@BOSC/114896603 while @Cmungall was describing a recent experiment with AI. I think it went as follows:

Starting with a cloned ontology repository, he asked an AI agent to prepare a pull request to follow a recent US executive order regarding gender terminology, which it did. He then asked it to revise the PR in line with the repository’s Code of Conduct.

The AI agent simply proposed changing the project’s Code of Conduct.

    (Chris Mungal’s #BOSC2025 / BOKR keynote at #ISMBECCB2025)

  23. Apologies to those following #BOSC2025 online, it looks like the computer system in the room locked up (slides not advancing, live transcript stuck). We assume the live feed stopped too.

@Cmungall ended with a brief verbal summary, and we are doing Q&A in the room now. #ISMBECCB2025

  25. Would ORCID like people minting IDs for software agent tools? Will need to do something for tracking provenance…

  27. I love the idea @Cmungall is describing of using historic issues and merged pull requests (by humans) as test cases for evaluating AI tools.

  29. “Software agents just love to hallucinate PedMed IDs” @Cmungall at #BOSC2025 / BOKR session at #ISMBECCB2025.

Still with caveats, it does seem AI can be useful in ontology work - especially for the more tedious housekeeping updates.

  31. Warching the #ISMBECCB2025 live subtitles again in #BOSC2025 this morning, I think human is involved - at least fixing up a computer transcription (eg Capitalising Institution Names). Perhaps they’re transcribing everything?

Not perfect, eg “agentic” (in slide title) as an adjective as “a genetic” (good guess), but that’s a super niche technical term.

Update: They’re getting the adjective agentic right now. I wonder if the full transcript gets cleaned up before the videos are shared? I hope so - this service has come a long way. I’m impressed!
