August is a tough month to get through for a lot of reasons. Perhaps this Painkiller #cocktail will help a tad.
Made the same way* (👇🏽 no pic now see one from earlier on) as I had it in Pussers American bar in #Munich oh so many years ago, courtesy my BIL who used to live not too far away from it.

*Not exactly - only diff is I use Coco Real cream of coconut, there they use Giffards

My Tai!
Like a #MaiTai only with homemade kumquat&orange liqueur and mid-East store Almond syrup bottle that I've spiked with orange blossom water as orgeat stand in. Probitas + Smith Cross #rum ; garden mint and lime juice kindly squeezed by kid2. I feel much better now!

A big ol pint glass of whiskey & seltzer for my partner and a lovely not so big glass with gin & limonata for me. Most refreshing on an excellent weather day!
I don't drink gin too often (not too many agree with me, but Plymouth works fine)

Tobala & tonic!
Ah so utterly refreshing and idk comforting in a way
I try and limit #mezcal #cocktails and this is a single varietal too - but for whatever reason tobala (and nothing else I've tried) works with tonic - cuts through the sweetness with an earthy flourish!
1½ oz Montelobos tobala ; ~4 oz tonic (Schweppes)

(Not quite how I feel about that name in 2026, but it's from 1898 I suppose)

60 mL Havana Club Especial #Rum
120 mL Coca cola (cane sugar sweetened; made in USA - not sure where)
Lime juice from wedge.

Must say this is a stiffer drink than I typically make (I like it!) - but given the rum I went with Havana Club proportions.

#Mezcal last word ftw
(With 3 drops of luxardo marascino cherry syrup and a ½ tsp of agave nectar - after it felt a little too tart and bracing)

Hmm the pineapple infused mezcal mentioned here seems interesting to have around ( cc @APBBlue )

This is turning out to be in my top 3 easily, even more so as I have it prebatched. Just need to stir well with ice to dilute a bit, splash of bitters, then pour into the cold glass.
Cacao nib infused* #mezcal negroni
(with campari and Carpano antica vermouth; 1 part each)

*1:1 Mix of 8 hr (overnight) infused at cool ambient room temp and 90 min infused at 65 ⁰C; 10% cacao nibs by weight per volume of mezcal (Espadin)

Taste testing the cocoa nib infused mezcal in #negroni (side by side with non infused control)
Flavor is excellent, chocolatey - I'm undecided whether to filter the #mezcal further through filter paper (not just the cheesecloth multi layers) to get it clearer.

It had gotten a bit passe or maybe I got jaded, so I don't really do it much, but nice foam can really enhance a drink flavor and textural contrast.

I normally have a double espresso - but hey today more than most other days calls for stronger stuff

The best trick I learned about Irish #coffee is to dump the hot coffee over the whiskey (1½ oz)

Here I brewed the espresso over the whiskey (and a Tbsp or so of Irish cream, why not!) then a bit of hot water from the steam wand, top with whipped cream

For the flight, followed up the Weller 👆🏽 - so clearly #bourbon on the nose and then taste - with these 3 #whisky s - in this left to right order: Toki (so light and so much like a Scotch), Jameson, then the Speyside Glenrothes I picked up some time ago. Oddly the last is smooth and full bodied but but hmm - will have to finish with something else

Not too often partner springs for me to fix her a #cocktail (rather than her whiskey or bourbon + seltzer). Ok a whiskey sour, she said - so I made one thinking about the one I had last in Osaka a few weeks ago*
No Hakushu here, went with the Ao that I have and yuzu liqueur I picked up (instead of syrup) along with lemon juice. A touch bracing (my preference is sweeter) but partner likes it sour. She liked this!

Beachbum Berry/Smugglers Cove.
Made the cinnamon syrup for it yesterday - this tastes like an amped up apple cider (not too but distinctly apple-y). Broke out Hamilton 86 Demerara #Rum for this (first bottle I've had - I had, have the 151 on hand more).
Happy making Saturday evening drink for sure!

I don't use velvet falernum much (my local Maggie's Farm distillery makes a terrific one) - but with ¼ oz here it's fine - went with the Plantation Barbados rum to tie it together.

A decade and half or so ago, totally fell for this drink - at Pussers American Bar in Munich. I've never been able to have piña coladas since then. It's only a 1 oz of fresh orange juice that's added in the Painkiller - but that makes a world of difference! Dangerous these things - and the No.3 is my preference.

Felt a bit fancy - and this is quite a good passion fruit juice (50%) I saw n picked up!

It's fine it's fine that's just a phat hurricane glass
and ¾ scale drink (3:1 on the Gosling's:Stiggin's )
