  6. @caten @wikipedia

    I've always though an algorithm that could parse natural language questions into #boolean search terms would be useful for #Wikipedia but do not know whether or that that would be considered #AI or not.

  7. One of the best things about the #guitar is that it is very #boolean.
    1) You either can do something or you can't.
    2) You can only do it if you #practice it.
    3) There are no shortcuts.

    As someone that hates areas of gray, it is pretty awesome. Additionally, it helps me be creative without the whole engineering brain taking over with optimal mapping and plans, lol.

    Just practice the things I can't do until I can, then repeat. Every guitarist has to do the same thing. No way around it.

  14. I've been told that telling other people your dreams is socially awkward. Conversations with LLMs fall into this category ... Except ... I had a vision in a dream! (the rest of this is ChatGPT Monday)

    Theorem: I’m right.
    Proof: (a → (b → a)).

    Yes! Finally, someone asks the question that’s been quietly sobbing in the corner of logic textbooks for centuries:

    "Why on earth would you add an Axiom of Weakening?" Like, “Hey, we’ve got a tight, elegant proof system here—what if we threw in a rule that says, ‘eh, forget that second part, just take the first thing and walk away’?” It’s the logical equivalent of:

    "We were going to listen to your full argument, but instead we’re just going to agree with whatever was said first and ignore the rest, cool?”

    Let’s unpack this glorious trainwreck.
    ...

    [for the rest, ask it about the K combinator]

    Interestingly, three #sunspots are visible on the projected image. Just barely, but they're sunspots no. 3239, 3242 and 3245. They match in topology with today's #SDO HMI Intensitygram perfectly, if rotated a bit counterclockwise as expected for a winter month in temperate to high latitudes of the Northern hemisphere (SDO data releases are, I believe, corrected for orbital observatory's inclination to the #Sun's equator so it's kept nicely in the middle of their images) spaceweatherlive.com/en/solar-

  16. Boolean algebra, my nemesis! We meet again!

    I'm going to tutor in Boolean algebra in about 30 minutes.

    Actually, it is not a nemesis. Boolean algebra is the one "algebra" that I would have been able to tutor last year before I started refreshing my memory of the other types of algebra. I never really ceased using it.

    Ask me to factor a polynomial last year, however, and you would have gotten a blank stare. The last time I did any of that was over 30 years ago. 😬

    (Happy to report that I took care of refreshing my memory.)

  18. I just discovered that my eldest foster daughter, who's in #Matric, does #Boolean logic (including AND, OR, and XOR) are part of the #Maths syllabus.

    My, but the syllabus has changed since I was in school! We only did that in Computer Studies.

    I also know they've done #Calculus in Matric for at least the last 10 years or so. And I remember once time in maths class, someone asked a question (this was Higher Grade, back when we still had different grades), and the teacher's response was, "Oh, don't worry about that. That's Calculus. You'll never touch that unless you do maths at varsity.

    To this day, I'm not even sure what Calculus *is*, but I know my brother did it in Matric about 13 years ago.

    Who says the standard of #education in #SouthAfrica is dropping? Sure, maybe the pass mark is dropping, but the difficulty and complexity is way higher than when I was at school! :O

  19. I've read quite a few articles on qualitative comparative analysis (#QCA), but nothing quite so broad as Charles Ragin's The Comparative Method book. It's a good mix of conceptual & practical, argument for a qualitative/quantitative compromise, and focused on political #sociology examples I'm familiar with. QCA uses a #boolean approach, looking for the combined effect/process of multiple variables upon outcomes. Fascinating & pitched at those w/ #stats knowledge. ucpress.edu/book/9780520280038 #reading

  24. After a couple weeks of hitting dead ends with Open3D's bugs in boolean geometry operations, I've switched to scripting Blender for my boolean geometry operations.

    I've got spheres, cylinders, and cubes with reliable intersections, unions, and differences, which was not possible with Open3D.

    I'm excited to start a larger design to see how Blender holds up.

  25. I'm super excited to start playing with three new functions that have recently been added to the Open3D library:
    - TriangleMesh::BooleanIntersect
    - TriangleMesh::BooleanUnion
    - TriangleMesh::BooleanSubtract

    The version packaged with Ubuntu does not include these functions yet, so last weekend I just successfully compiled from source and linked with my C++ project.

    I'm working on some ideas for procedural generation of 3D printing models and these functions will really help me out, I think.

  32. Записки bash-скриптера. Листок первый. Сокращённый if
