  1. Macintyre brings this forgotten world to life. You’ll meet men who fought dirty, risked everything, and changed modern war forever.

  3. That last one has recently included the excellent:
    - “The Gendered Brain” by Gina Rippon;
    - “Silent earth: averting the insect apocalypse” by Dave Goulson; and
    - “The first day on the Somme” by Martin Middlebrook,
    all of which I would recommend.

    Plus I’m currently enjoying “The cost of lunch, etc.” by Marge Piercy and “Sensation” by Nick Mamatas.

  4. Sometimes, I just want to get lost in a good murder mystery. Recently, I read The Edge of the Crazies: A Jules Clement Novel by Jamie Harrison, which I greatly enjoyed. The series of Jules Clement novels revolve around the small-town Montana sheriff Jules Clement. Harrison’s story kept me intrigued, but I especially enjoyed the setting in the #Yellowstone region of Montana.

  6. I recently read Of Mice and Men, a book I've not read since high-school.

    When I picked up that slim, Penguin Classic, I remembered that it was a novella and I read it in a few days.

    I enjoyed it more as an adult, the simmering tension in the book is metered out by superb pacing and wonderful characterisation.
