It’s supposed to snow tomorrow so I will be working to make my version of the Book of the Dead from The Mummy. I’m doing it as a box, so I can put my stuff in it at the con. (Image of book prop for reference.) #themummy #bookofthedead

This Book of the Dead was owned by a woman called Nany, who was a King’s Daughter of His Body and a Chantress of Amun – her father was probably Pinudjem I who was one of the High Priests of Amun who ruled the southern part of Egypt from Thebes during the 21st Dynasty.

This is the central scene & it’s a familiar scene to most of us who are interested in Ancient Egypt: the Weighing of the Heart, to determine if Nany has lived a virtuous enough life to enter the afterlife. You can see her heart is lighter than Maat so she has succeeded!

Under the scales Anubis is turning to tell Osiris (seated to the right) the result, and on top of the scales the baboon form of Thoth records this. Osiris is saying (via the text above him) that Nany should be given her eyes & mouth, and you can see her holding them to the left. 🧵 1/2
