Audio Interview: How AI Is Changing Book Cover Design, with Howard Lovy and Pablo Yáñez
On the Self-Publishing with ALLi podcast, host Howard Lovy talks to Pablo Yáñez González, founder of BeYourCover, about how artificial intelligence is changing book cover design. A professional book cover photographer for more than fifteen years before building AI tools, Yáñez explains where AI can help authors create marketable covers, where it still falls short, and why genre conventions matter more than many writers realize. He also discusses the ethics of AI, the continuing value of human designers, and how authors can decide which approach is right for their books.

So excited to share the new book covers for my ecofiction trilogy! These were designed by Canadian artist and graphic designer Laurie Landry, who artfully incorporated my paintings. I worked on the trilogy for 15 years and the paintings (part of a series of 27 large panels) for 5 years...
The first two novels, The Erenwine Agenda: A Hydraulic Fracturing Love Story, and Otter Coast: A Medical Marijuana Mystery, were previously published and will be reprinted with the new covers. Rail: A High Speed Adventure, will be published for the first time in a few weeks.
What connects fracking, marijuana and infrastructure, you might ask? They are threaded together by the singular journey of the protagonist, Amalia Sengupta Erenwine, who begins as an intern working in architecture, then pursues her licensing exams, and finally, works as a registered architect. Her visionary states lead her across regions, countries and continents, culminating in the final novel, Rail. Though a trilogy, these can be read (and people are currently reading) standalone, not in order. I'll share more with next steps and notes from the studio.
For now: three good things, in Mastodon style: 1. inspired ideas 2. great collaborators 3. easy platforms on which to share them-thank you @PaulaToThePeople ! @ThreeGoodThings

Audio Interview: What Genre Conventions Teach Authors About Professional Book Cover Design with Howard Lovy and Michele DeFilippo
On the Self-Publishing with ALLi podcast, host Howard Lovy talks to Michele DeFilippo, founder of 1106 Design, about the role genre conventions play in professional book cover design. Michele explains the visual signals that help readers recognize a book’s category at a glance, from the authority expected in business books to the mood and atmosphere that drive fiction covers. She also discusses the thumbnail test, common amateur mistakes, the danger of cramming too much information onto a cover, and the importance of giving designers enough room to create a cover that serves both the author and the marketplace.
