Ahead of its 89th anniversary, valuations for J.R.R. Tolkien's first published novel are spiking. We bypass the marketing hype to examine the real economic data behind a 43,000 pound sale of a pristine 1937 print run. #BookCollecting https://www.geeknative.com/242372/the-economics-of-rare-books-and-why-pr-valuations-mask-the-truth/

📚😆 "I Own 28,000 Books" 🤣 - Translation: I Own 28,000 Logistics Nightmares. Turns out, collecting books isn't an intellectual pursuit; it's just an elaborate plan to torment moving companies and insurance agents. 📦📚😅

I’m dipping back into #LibraryThing for cataloguing my books and keeping tabs on what I'm reading / have read / want to read etc. I've used various sites in the past - Goodreads, StoryGraph and NeoDB but have never been completely satisfied with any of them.

I have an older account from about 15 years ago on LibraryThing which I've resurrected and into which I’m importing books from StoryGraph. The tagging and collection features of LT seem to be quite useful. It'll take a while to tweak things, no doubt, but that's part of the fun, surely…?

Anyway, here’s my profile if anyone else is on there:

I really, really love it when decorative elements from the page edges and the endbands meet. It can be a subtle thing but it's just lovely when you notice it. I went simple on the endbands for this book because there is a LOT going on everywhere else!

Spent some time FINALLY using the clear sleeves on dust jackets of some books I've been picking up over the years.

While jacketing my F. Paul Wilson books (first editions of both "The Keep" and "Black Wind"), I was astonished to discover that "Black Wind" was autographed!

#Booktober / #Spooktober Day 3: a book from just last year! An essential read for ghost story collectors on which stories are told and how they evolve - and what gets left out. Highly recommended.

#Booktober / #Spooktober Day 2: Sheila St. Clair’s Psychic Phenomena in Ireland. Seems to be the OG source for a number of stories that show up in many places now. Not dissimilar to Joan Forman in many ways - my fellow ghost story collectors will know what I mean!

The huge purge/reorganization of the library at our house continues. Trying to round up my space/aviation collection (all of which stay). Currently have about 140 volumes here, but I know there are more to be found.

Made a friend last month and just found out her partner is a rare book dealer. Very interesting catalogue I thought I’d share with @bookstodon - https://www.thompsonrarebooks.com/ #rarebooks #bookcollecting #books #bookstodon

Got quite a bargain here, 4 volumes of this monumental series, Birds of the Western Palearctic (the BWP) for only £12. A lifelong 'want'
