Most journeys through time begin with a destination. In CERNON, Book One of an 8 book series, the destination is only the beginning of the mystery.
Sophia Shaman of the Elk Creek Tribe enters the past seeking answers about Cernon’s origin. She expects to uncover an old story, perhaps a forgotten event or a hidden truth buried beneath layers of myth. Instead, she finds herself in a world tens of thousands of years removed from her own, where an ice age is approaching and a small tribe is fighting to survive.
The deeper Sophia moves into this ancient world, the less stable the idea of history becomes. Her journey is not a simple visit to a distant era. It is an encounter with memory itself. Cernon tells her, “You were never really there. You were riding my memories.”
The statement changes everything. Can a memory carry consequences across time?
These questions give the novel one of its central themes: the uncertain relationship between observer and participant. Sophia arrives intending to help, but her presence may be more significant than she realizes. Her compassion draws her toward the endangered tribe, yet every choice she makes could alter the meaning of Cernon’s beginning. The line between discovering history and creating it grows increasingly thin.
Against the pressure of the coming ice age, the novel places enormous philosophical questions inside a very physical struggle. The tribe needs shelter, protection, and hope. Sophia must respond to immediate danger while confronting the possibility that she is part of a much larger pattern.
That tension makes the story more than an adventure into the distant past. It becomes a meditation on whether time carries us forward—or whether we sometimes become the tools through which time reshapes the world.
