  2. Anyway, I've read some of the books he's banned, and as someone who spent 33 years working with child sexual abuse victims and survivors, I can state without hesitation or equivocation that not one of them grooms kids or promotes trafficking. Most, if not neutral on the subject, are preventive, healing, or both.

    >“It’s the law and we expect you to follow the law. So we’re coming for the books,” Patrick said during a news conference at the Texas Capitol. “We ask that you do it on your own and remove these books.”

That's a little on-the-nose, don't you think, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick?

  4. He fired her on the record instead. The book removals. The district lines. The children she was elected to protect and didn't.

He refused to use a woman's private life as a weapon even against a woman who had spent years using ours.

That was December 2023. This week Sarasota County voted her replacements in and Bridget Ziegler leaves the board on November 17.

  5. A high schooler in a district that had already removed the books, redrawn the lines, and named the trans kids out loud. A microphone. A sitting school board member in front of him, and her private life sitting right there on the table where anyone could pick it up.

  6. Book bans, unintended consequences and mainstream media
    Reality is often upsetting

Censorship and challenging of library books in Western nations have risen sharply, driven by organized political campaigns targeting LGBTQIA+ themes, race, and geopolitical conflicts.

    * "Bondi library removes book How to Sell a Genocide from shelves after complaint."
“..It makes some people upset is unfortunate, but reality is often upsetting. This particular reality is especially upsetting … to the parents of the over 20,000 children killed by Israel in Gaza since October 2023. Do Sydney officials plan on removing pro-Israel books from their libraries because it potentially upsets these community members?” >>

    * Book censorship?
That is when the 'the Streisand effect' kicks in: "It is the phenomenon in which an attempt to hide, remove, or censor information results in the unintended consequence of the effort instead increasing public awareness of the information." (wikipedia)

  7. The Russian edition of Hope: The Autobiography went out with the LGBTQ+ sections cut or blacked through. Published worldwide in 2025; published in Russia only this year, only after the surgery.

Nearly 600 books banned there since 2022 under the "propaganda" regime. Alpina Publishing has said precisely nothing. It took a dead pontiff. WTF.

"This video was made 2 years ago in 2024. As of 2026 There have been nearly 23,000 instances of book bans in U.S. public schools since 2021. The 2024-2025 school year alone saw 6,870 instances of book bans, with over 4,000 unique titles affected. These bans, driven largely by efforts in states like Florida and Texas, frequently target stories with LGBTQ+ themes or characters of color."

“'Dangerously broad' federal book ban bill would bar kids from reading books about 'transgenderism'

ALA President Sam Helmick said the bill 'treats seventeen-year-olds the same as kindergarteners.'

The American Library Association (ALA) is sounding the alarm as a federal bill seeking to ban 'sexually oriented material' in public schools makes its way through Congress.

S.B. 4925 was referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions on June 24. Officially named the 'Stop the Sexualization of Children Act,' it defines 'sexually oriented material' as 'any program, activity, literature, or material that exposes such children to nude adults, individuals who are stripping, or lewd or lascivious dancing,' as well as anything that 'involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism.'

The legislation would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to ban schools from using funding provided through the act to provide students with any of the prohibited material.

A companion bill in the House, H.B. 7661, passed the House Education and Workforce Committee in March, though neither bill is reportedly scheduled to be considered on the House or Senate floors.

n addition to the explicit ban on anything mentioning trans people, the concept of 'sexually oriented material' has become a conservative euphemism for any content mentioning LGBTQ+ identities.

The ALA called the legislation 'dangerously broad.'

'Such a sweeping prohibition threatens health, art, and science education,' the organization wrote, urging people to take action. 'The bill’s language also targets LGBTQIA+ communities. It’s ideological grandstanding and political overreach, pure and simple. This type of fear-mongering and censorship can’t become law.'

ALA also said the bill 'threatens to hand over parents’ rights to lawmakers, letting them decide what books students can access in their school libraries.'

ALA President Sam Helmick also stated that the bill 'is not about what is best for children' and 'treats seventeen-year-olds the same as kindergarteners.'

They also pointed out that the bill’s 'exception for ‘classical art’ is a smokescreen for discrimination against any form of artistic expression that does not comply with an ideology that denies the stories and personhood of certain groups of people, especially LGBTQIA+ people.'”

  12. Good email from ALA:
"Legislation like S. 4925 should concern anyone who believes in the right of families to make decisions for themselves. Congress shouldn’t limit people’s freedom to read: they should invest in libraries."

  13. "Rather than prosecuting people involved in child sex trafficking, House Republicans are trying to “Stop the Sexualization of Children” by turning the blame against teachers, librarians, and LGBTQ+ people. They have proposed H.R. 7661, a bill to block funding for schools or programs that provide access to “sexually oriented material” to people under the age of 18; effectively, a book ban."

  19. At sentencing earlier this week, judge said the pastor showed zero remorse. “You choose rather to blame the victim and incredulously claim that you were the victim of abuse at her home, a 14-year-old child.” Silas Shelton was sentenced to the max, 15 yrs, for abuse back in 2019.
2023, he's telling his school board "I got sick reading that stuff" re: award winning (gay) graphic novel.
