  1. I want to share a little story with you guys. Yet again, I am quite sure, that most of you don’t like it.
I was a part of antiregime opposition and then resistance for quite some time. And I remember a moment, when regime got shaken for real. It was 2011 Bolotnaya protests. Planes with Putin’s VIP were flying away from Russia, big chunks of law-enforcement institutions were paralyzed and there was a vibe of big revolutionary change in Moscow.
Back then, the regime has bought most opposition leaders as a method to combat protests. Some even got giant mansions near St. Petersburg and Moscow as a form of bribe to end the protests. And after this, almost all main pro-protest accounts in the internet started to spread something like this: “You don’t want a civil war, bloodshed inside the country, do you? A lot of people will die if we don’t peacefully find a compromise with the state power” Sounds familiar with news about Ukraine and possible war between NATO and Russia doesn’t it?
Do you know what happened next, after 2011 protests? – half of million Russians has died on the frontlines. Tens of thousands has been send to prisons for political believes, big opposition leaders killed, millions of people displaced, exiled and there is no end in sight for this. If a civil war started back in 2011 - we will have much less victims.
And it brings one lesson – tyrant has already decided long ago its path to mass death, destruction and violence. That’s why he is a tyrant. He has already make a choice to go on a path to catastrophe. If you try to negotiate with him – you will just multiply victims. Conflict will come to your doorstep – and you will have much worse positions for self-defense. It is an egoistic thing – to suppose, that you are the one who decide whether it will be peace or war. In reality tyrant has decided it for you long ago.
When regime is saying something like – Give us Ukraine, you don’t want ww3 and nuclear strikes, do you? – it means that there will be nuclear strikes and ww3 anyway, no matter what peaceful proposals you do to him. Putin has already make all decisions to insure that global nuclear conflict will start no matter what.
Don’t repeat mistakes of Russian opposition. The regime has already played “peaceful” card inside Russia once and it will gladly do it again with foreign countries if you let him.
From great crimes to great catastrophes, a tyrant goes. It is the very nature of things, that he tries to rebel against. All your choices, wishes and words have no place in his crusade. Only ultimate catastrophe, which is death, can stop him.

  2. Russia’s descent into #totalitarianism: How it happened

For over a decade, the #Kremlin took away civil liberties & fed the population an increasingly more aggressive version of #nationalism. Most Russians didn’t seem to care

2012: the Kremlin ruthlessly ended the wave of #Bolotnaya protests. Named for the square in Moscow where demonstrators gathered. Thousands of Russians flooded the streets to protest against election fraud

  3. Deepdive @7x7journal on Aleksey Ostrovsky, who became the first #LDPR "opposition" governor in depressed #Smolensk in 2012 as a reward for loyalty during #Bolotnaya. From there, things quickly got worse as the new face quickly behaved "like a regular #UnitedRussia bureaucrat".
