I was pondering what to post for American Independence Day, such as it is, and suddenly it came to me: how about a red, white, and blue fungus!

In July of last year, we found this red mouth bolete (𝘉𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘴) lying beside the trail. Since it was already uprooted, we had no qualms about cutting into it to see this really cool property: it's flesh turns blue when you cut it!
