I just stumble on the article "Gamification makes about as much sense as chocolate-dipped broccoli" by @ASegar
https://www.conferencesthatwork.com/index.php/event-design/2021/02/gamification-chocolate-dipped-broccoli/It resonates so strongly with me. For me #gamification has such a strong manipulative touch, introduces vanity metric and often is based on competition 🤮
And don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of games in a professional setting (and my job)
But as #SeriousGames or playful interventions.Examples for a Serious Games are emergency drills and exercises. They create a save environment to experience certain elements of reality and enable collective learning.
Are they fun? Not necessarily, or probably not. YOu will experience stress and anxiety like it would be real. But the designe of the Game/simulation can control this. And possibly they are "fun" in hindsight. You have a laugh on what went catastrophically wrong (but nobody got harmed because it was a game)Playful interventions are "games" or activities which are completely unrelated to the task at hand. They can be used to cause a "reset", let you get away from a intellectual exercise to something physical and through this enable new perspectives or a "fresh start"
Examples would be #HappySalmon or #BodySongsBut not every Playful intervention fits for everyone
I'm looking forward to the @play4agile to discover new possibilities fror both 🙂
