It is if you like the #SamRaimi or #StuartGordon or #DanOBannon school of horror. #DCC favours an over-the-top, #gonzo style of play. If you enjoy #EvilDead or #FromBeyond #splatter #gore and #bodyhorror it works really well.

'Clayface' has the potential to be a properly unsettling body horror film that takes the 'Feat of Clay' episodes of Batman TAS to new levels, and it looks like this is the way it's heading, and I hope it sticks the landing, both because it’s a bold and compelling change for comic book adaptations, and because it fits the character's narrative well.

This week I've been mainly reading, no. 288.
Laura Elliott's part sci-fi, part body horror Awakened (2025) is difficult to describe without revealing a central plot spoiler, but its a close & claustrophobic read, which has an (possibly frustratingly) elliptical ending. However, for the most part this is a highly readable dystopian tale of science & scientists going wrong, which centres on a post-disaster community in the Tower of London. I liked it a lot.

David Cronenberg, master of body horror movies, was born today (March 15) in 1943 (during World War II!)
I saw his films 'Crash' and 'Naked Lunch' early, around the same time, in 1997 or 1998. Since then, I've seen many more of his- I just counted, I've seen 13 of his 23 films, and I've loved all of them. I'm a huge fan. My favorite was Shivers for a while. I'm not sure what it is now. Gotta see those final 10!
