Bodie California is located in the Eastern Sierras and is the official ghost town of California. It is listed as a State Historical Park, earning that designation in 1962 when the state took over.
During the Gold Rush days, Bodie was a bustling small city of between 7 and 10 thousand residents. Multiple events including a couple of fires spelt the end of Bodie.

At it's peak there were over 7K residents. After a couple of fires and a depleted gold supply the town shut down.
