  2. @leoperbo No conocía #BodhiLinux.

  4. Is there any way to access my files if I can't login as myself? My standard login suddenly gives me a flashing, crazy screen with no interaction except a moving cursor. But I can still login from a USB as a live session user, so I wondered if I could get to those files from there. I've been trying to use su - in the terminal but it doesn't recognize my actual username. I really need to rescue some files from this computer. Any tips are appreciated.

  6. New YCL special! I fixed my networking issue! But not the other two major issues I was having. :( youtu.be/cUrNRt6fLqI #linux #bodhilinux

  7. Using #Microsoft is like seeing how long you can hold a nine-volt battery against your tongue.

  8. @mooseandriosmom Falling down a flight of stairs is better than Windows.

But seriously, all you need is #Linux. If it's new to you (as it mostly is to me) I recommend #Mint or #BodhiLinux or even #PopOS.

  9. Right now I'm working happily in #Blender with an old Elitebook running #BodhiLinux.

But I want a new #laptop that can render Terragen scenes.

I was about to buy a new MacBook Pro M4 because life is short.

Tim Cook has made that nauseating.

    Windows 11 is unusable.

So what in the crap of lords is a rendering node?

  10. @Bern I use #BodhiLinux as an introduction, especially since the AppPack version comes with just about everything you need.

  11. Was excited about the new Framework 12", but I'm going to first try maxing the RAM in my Gateway LT2030u netbook.
    Its goals are:
    - Type stuff (LaTeX/nano)
    - Mild web browsing
    - SSHing into more powerful machines
    - Nethack
It should be able to do that with 2GB.

  12. @goblingua I found an old Celeron laptop that was literally being thrown away and installed #BodhiLinux which has run perfectly for years.

#bodhilinux

  14. Looking at Linux distros for 32bit, 1GB RAM, mostly for more LOLs. A shame newest Debian 12 default not really usable with a GUI on that spec whereas 8 was slow but relatively OK. Tried XFCE was a bit better but still excruciating opening apps, changing windows. Briefly tried Alpine but couldn't get the WiFi working.

Now starting looking at #BodhiLinux. But I'm a bit spaced out by the check hard disk option. Groovy, far out man. I may be a while, where did I leave the incense sticks?

  15. Well, I regret leaving @[email protected], I have been wandering into other distros, but my poor laptop can't stand for long before freezing, probably got something wrong with newer Linux kernel and I do not know how to troubleshoot it yet. Plus, other distros consumes much RAM, like Fedora MATE consumes 1 GB of RAM without running any program like terminal or web browser and Ubuntu-flavored distros are even worse, even with used swaps. I do not know what's going on, but can I assume that Linux distros now does not favor old hardware anymore? Unfortunately, I have to say that #LinuxMint and #mxlinux are the only distros to work without many issues so far. Ah, I forget to mention #BodhiLinux.

  16. As expected...
If you have any hiccups on (like with smooth scrolling in Firefox etc.) with an intel graphics card you can switch to the intel-media-va-driver-non-free driver in synaptic. The intel-media-va-driver iwll be removed automatically.
Works great now without any graphic distortions. I know it's not free software but the glitches drove me insane.
And 4k video fullscreen in Firefox now without any problems.

The Pentium 4 desktop, sadly, was thrown away in 2016, and I regret not keeping it for further Linux experiments.

  18. #BodhiLinux7.0 is the latest release of one of the oldest #Ubuntu-based #linux #distros, with one of the more unusual desktops. With its new release #BodhiLinux 7 brings Enlightenment to Ubuntu. With a choice of kernel versions, and even a 32-bit edition if you need it. Based on Ubuntu 22.04, with the #Moksha desktop, which is a fork of #Enlightenment17. theregister.com/2023/08/25/bod

  19. @dangillmor it's a pity there are not open source operating system "distributions" that vet "package maintainer" individuals for all of the thousands of software application packages that most people might actually need, who then function as gatekeepers to weed out bad software releases, not to mention imposters, from infiltrating a distribution system of cryptographically signed and QA'd software, that is verified to comply with "distribution" policies.

    Some day, perhaps.
