Olympic Bobsledding has long been a hot bed of technological innovation, and the 2026 winter games are no exception.

Carbon fiber, custom spike plates/specialized shoes, 3D printing, plasma nitriding, and yes data analytics are all powering efforts by teams to gain even the slightest of advantages. Advanced data analytics powered by data from sensors in the sleds is studied to plot the best trajectories for approaching curves and developing race strategies.

Lastly, design efforts continue to improve the safety systems in sleds and aim to create refinements in three key areas: 1) keeping athletes inside the sled (during crashes), 2) improving the ability to brake the bobsled, and 3) improving protective clothing and helmets.
