Ok, time for some music talk. When Bob Mould’s band Sugar released Copper Blue I was neck deep in completing my masters, teaching full time, planning my wedding, and attempting to buy my first house. Needless to say, a lot was happening in my life. I would study every night for my comps with it playing in the background for 4 hours at a stretch. I created mnemonic devices with the lyrics to help me recall 75 (yes really 75) citations of literacy research. During the exam I sang silently to myself and crushed it. Yesterday, I bought tics to see the Sugar reunion tour in August. That album kept me sane in a time of great challenge. I can’t wait to see Bob and Co do this album live again. Music is the magic I’ve always needed. #BobMould #sugarcopperblue

Sugar's Copper Blue is a phenomenal album. Definitely in my regular listening rotation. The question is, do I need a cool looking colored vinyl copy or am I happy with just the cd? (Clearly I ponder life's most pressing questions...)

[Savage Young Du box set version]This is where my love for my hero Bob Mould and Husker Du began. As a kid, I blind bought the Everything Falls Apart And More cd (the expanded one with the blue cover), because the older brother of a friend of mine told me they were essential listening.
I think I ended up buying something like 6 copies of it over time, due to either wear, people stealing it, etc.
The title track, Gravity, Target, the Sunshine Superman cover.
Those four songs would inform the rest of my music-going life; not just as a listener, but as a musician & songwriter myself.Without hyperbole, Bob Mould gave me a purpose in life. Flash forward past the Husker albums, his solo records, Sugar… & here I stand.
I’m not who I am without Bob.
Not possible without him.

Went on a day trip to Victoria today, & paid a visit to Ditch, a great record store.
I’m very friendly with the owner J.R., as we are the same age & share a deep love for #90s rock.I told him, “Dude every time I come in here, I have to fight the urge to buy that Bob Mould box set. I only want the first 2 solo albums though. I already have most of the Sugar stuff that’s in there.”
“Bro, that thing has been in here FOREVER. You’re the only dude who’s even THOUGHT about it. What if I took 40% off? We need to get it out of here.”
I basically paid what it would have cost me if I had just bought individual copies of Workbook and Black Sheets Of Rain individually, and I got Sugar’s Besides as well, which i DIDNT have.
Don’t like the new covers they used though.

No songwriter has ever had a greater impact on my life than Bob.
Whether it be Husker Du, Sugar, or his solo albums, Bob’s impact on my life could never truly be measured.
I owe the entirety of my creative life to him.This run of six albums that Bob’s been on has been nothing short of miraculous. From Silver Age straight up to this year’s Here We Go Crazy, Bob has been as big, melodic, angry and vital sounding as ever.
Of these last six phenomenal records, this one is my favorite. Every single song is incredible. From the opening notes of “Voices In My Head”, it DOES NOT LET UP.
“Hold On” might be my favorite Bob song ever not named “Egooverride”.
When Bob passes on, there will be a part of me that breaks that will never be repaired.
