@Ryanteck @lionelb yeah I'm in that situation with my #bmwi3 rex.

I drive 100% on electric with the rex engine never being used, but I'll be 1.5p/mile better off than if it wasn't there.

Cold winter weather means EV range plummets with battery and car heaters.

Arrived here with just 5 miles left, but glad I have that little rex engine as backup (40 miles)

Podczas targów IAA Mobility 2025 w Monachium, BMW Group oficjalnie zaprezentowało swoją wizję przyszłości, odsłaniając koncepcję NEUE KLASSE.

To nie tylko zapowiedź jednego modelu, ale całkowicie nowej generacji pojazdów, która ma zredefiniować markę. Pierwszym samochodem opartym na tej rewolucyjnej platformie jest w pełni elektryczne, nowe BMW iX3, o którym u nas już pisaliśmy.

Na konferencji prasowej otwierającej targi, Prezes Zarządu BMW AG, Oliver Zipse, podkreślił, że NEUE KLASSE to najważniejszy projekt w najnowszej historii firmy. Jest to kulminacja prac nad rozwojem kluczowych technologii motoryzacyjnych, od napędu i baterii, przez dynamikę jazdy, aż po system operacyjny i cyfrowe doświadczenia użytkownika. To krok, który ma przenieść charakterystyczną dla marki „radość z jazdy” na zupełnie nowy poziom.

Czym jest NEUE KLASSE?

Zgodnie z zapowiedziami, NEUE KLASSE to fundament, na którym opierać się będzie cała przyszła gama modelowa BMW. Do 2027 roku na rynek ma trafić ponad 40 nowych lub odświeżonych modeli marki, a każdy z nich, niezależnie od rodzaju napędu, będzie nosił w sobie „geny” nowej klasy.

Podczas prezentacji oficjalnie potwierdzono, że już w przyszłym roku zadebiutuje drugi model z tej rodziny – sportowy, w pełni elektryczny sedan, czyli nowe BMW i3.

Światła zamiast chromu i panoramiczny wyświetlacz

Za rewolucją technologiczną idzie także całkowicie nowy język stylistyczny. Adrian van Hooydonk, szef działu projektowania BMW Group, wyjaśnił, że design NEUE KLASSE cechuje się czystością formy i precyzyjnymi liniami, co przekłada się na doskonałą aerodynamikę.

Charakterystycznym elementem nowego iX3 jest przedni pas, w którym chromowane detale zostały zastąpione przez oświetlenie, a klasyczne „nerki” grilla przyjęły bardziej pionową formę. Największą innowacją we wnętrzu jest z kolei BMW Panoramic Vision – system projekcji najważniejszych informacji na całej szerokości dolnej krawędzi przedniej szyby, widoczny dla wszystkich pasażerów. W połączeniu z nowym, bezramkowym wyświetlaczem centralnym i nową kierownicą, tworzy on nową generację systemu iDrive.

Nowości od MINI i BMW Motorrad

Monachijska prezentacja była też okazją do przedstawienia nowości pozostałych marek koncernu. Pokazano nową rodzinę MINI, składającą się z czterech modeli: Cabrio, Cooper, Aceman oraz Countryman. Klienci będą mogli wybierać zarówno spośród wersji w pełni elektrycznych, jak i tych z silnikami spalinowymi.

Z kolei oddział motocyklowy, BMW Motorrad, zaprezentował futurystyczny koncept BMW Motorrad Vision CE. To elektryczny jednoślad z systemem samobalansującym, który dzięki specjalnej konstrukcji ramy ma w przyszłości pozwolić na jazdę miejską bez konieczności zakładania kasku.

@BitchinRob Wisely Automotive on YouTube and FB is an excellent resource IMHO.

Arthur (owner) and Martin are very knowledgeable and communicate openly about pricing, frequent issues, etc.

They also recently posted the cost of their service interventions.

Martin has also driven various i3 models across country, and reported on the ease of doing that as well.

Would I buy a #BMWi4 after this?

No.

Very competent. Doesn’t feel like a BMW IMH(fbw)O*. Too heavy.

The #BMWi3 feels much more like a BMW. Nimble and sprightly.

Once inside, the rear view is like a cave for cave trolls. I’m not a cave troll. Very dark, and huge rear pillars. One has to rely on the cameras a lot, but for overtaking or lane changing, glancing over one’s shoulder is insufficient for carefree maneuvers.

There’s a dude on the BMW Blog with a 2014 #BMWi3 who mentions he averages 4.9 miles per kWh in combined usage of highway and city when the weather is between 40F – 90F.

He did also mention a big performance hit in the winter though. 👎

I’m not entirely surprised the #BMWi3 won the poll.

I am somewhat surprised that the #BMWi8 Roadster didn’t get more votes, as it’s the more unusual car, so maybe a future classic, as @ukuku has suggested before. 🤔

This is the i3, CPO, with 11 months of the new car warranty remaining. CPO adds another year + unlimited miles after that.

It is a 3Y lease return.

@SteveInVentura I’ve watched a few videos from #WiselyAutomotive of London Town 🇬🇧. They specialize in #BMWi3 and other EV’s. I normally hate YouTube but Martin of W.A. is a joy to listen to.

Anyway, some of his explanations involve road trips to drive purchased i3’s back to London, and he never discharges the battery completely, or charges above 90% because it wastes time on a long trip.

It’s an extreme example, but it demonstrates the logic perfectly.

Did a 160 mile round trip drive with my EV, a 2018 BMW i3 with REX. It worked out well, I turned the range extender on and used it as soon as I was able and used gasoline first. Had to fill up on the way back (1.3 gallons!) but made it home with 60% of a charge.

"Range anxiety" has been an issue, I had a Prius that could go 480 miles on a tank. Not so worried now.

@serichards voted for the i3 brain car, because I just loved that thing when I tried it last year. 🥰

I didn’t find the cloth seats objectionable, but I did find the leather seats (and interior) very dark.

If I were you, I’d try for one with the technology package, which gets the larger center screen which looks much more up to date.

Charging was a breeze, and the acceleration felt faster than either of our Mercedes-Benz V6 petrol cars.

Random question for the BMW #i3 crowd. Did you ever open the front tow hook cover? I tried to install a tow hook license plate mount but can’t open the cover to save my life. The manual says to just push, but if I try any harder I am going to end up breaking the bumper (or the finger).

Nothing else has such mind blowing curvaceous design cues for an historic architectural home like this.

For the second vehicle, and some added practicality for local driving, I’m going with the #BMWi3. A modern classic in its own right.

@SteveInVentura I only drove a 2014 #BMWi3 for three days, rented from #Turo and I could already tell that I wouldn’t want to drive anything else. 🤷‍♂️

@dan Yeah… don’t know if you followed my #BMWi3 purchase saga, but I walked out of the dealership after 90 minutes telling the sales dude that he had taken up way too much of my time.

That was the end of it. They sold the car over a month later for $5,000 less than I offered, which they were arguing over, because it was $2,000 below the listed price, which I said was too high. They had agreed to lower the price by $500 twice and were still struggling to go the extra mile.
