CW: BRIN vs BMKG on weather forecast
President Jokowi and DPR Commission VII side with BMKG on BRIN weather forecast controversy
President Jokowi has advised the public to follow weather advice from the country's meteorological agency, BMKG, following the controversial weather announcement from BRIN climate researcher Dr. Erma Yulihastin on Twitter several days ago.
Dr. Erma shared her forecast on her Twitter account the day after Christmas, warning the public of an extreme rainfall and fierce storm on the 28th with Banten, Jakarta, and Bekasi being at the center of it.
The BMKG immediately refuted Dr. Erma's predictions, saying that they expect extreme weather on the 30th but there would be no storm or extreme rainfall on the 28th. Dr. Erma's warnings never came to pass on the 28th, nor the 29th.
While the DPR summoned both the BMKG and BRIN to explain the situation, DPR Commission VII member Mulyanto (PKS) said BRIN has no authority to make such announcements and that Dr. Erma had overstepped her bounds by publishing a weather warning.
BRIN, supervised by former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, has been at the center of several controversial decisions following its inception as it absorbed and shuttered multiple respected research agencies.

GEMPABUMI TEKTONIK M5,6 DI SUKABUMI, JAWA BARAT, TIDAK BERPOTENSI TSUNAMI
Kejadian dan Parameter Gempabumi:
Hari Senin 21 November 2022 pukul 13.21.10 WIB wilayah Sukabumi, Jawa Barat diguncang gempa tektonik. Hasil analisis BMKG menunjukkan gempabumi ini memiliki parameter update dengan magnitudo M5,6. Episenter gempabumi terletak pada koordinat 6,86° LS ; 107,01° BT, atau tepatnya berlokasi di darat wilayah Sukalarang, Sukabumi, Jawa Barat pada kedalaman 11 km.
Jenis dan Mekanisme Gempabumi:
Dengan memperhatikan lokasi episenter dan kedalaman hiposenternya, gempabumi yang terjadi merupakan jenis gempabumi dangkal yang diduga akibat aktivitas sesar Cimandiri. Hasil analisis mekanisme sumber menunjukkan bahwa gempabumi memiliki mekanisme pergerakan geser ( strike-slip ).
Dampak Gempabumi:
Gempabumi ini dirasakan di Kota Cianjur dengan skala intensitas V - VI MMI ( Getaran dirasakan oleh semua penduduk. Kebanyakan semua terkejut dan lari keluar ). Garut dan Sukabumi IV - V MMI ( Getaran dirasakan hampir semua penduduk, orang banyak terbangun ). Cimahi, Lembang, Kota Bandung, Cikalong Wetan, Rangkasbitung, Bogor dan Bayah dengan skala intensitas III MMI ( Getaran dirasakan nyata dalam rumah. Terasa getaran seakan akan truk berlalu ). Rancaekek, Tangerang Selatan, Jakarta dan Depok dengan skala intensitas II - III MMI ( Getaran dirasakan nyata dalam rumah. Terasa getaran seakan akan truk berlalu ). Hingga saat ini sudah ada laporan kerusakan bangunan seperti rumah dan toko juga dampak longsor di wilayah Cianjur yang ditimbulkan akibat gempabumi tersebut. Hasil pemodelan menunjukkan bahwa gempabumi ini TIDAK BERPOTENSI TSUNAMI.
Gempabumi Susulan:
Hingga pukul 14.00 WIB, hasil monitoring BMKG menunjukkan adanya 15 (lima belas) aktivitas gempabumi susulan ( aftershock ) dengan magnitudo terbesar M4.0.
Rekomendasi:
Kepada masyarakat dihimbau agar tetap tenang dan tidak terpengaruh oleh isu yang tidak dapat dipertanggungjawabkan kebenarannya. Agar menghindari dari bangunan yang retak atau rusak diakibatkan oleh gempa. Periksa dan pastikan bangunan tempat tinggal anda cukup tahan gempa, ataupun tidak ada kerusakan akibat getaran gempa yang membahayakan kestabilan bangunan sebelum anda kembali ke dalam rumah.
