It's probably heresy to say on here, but I miss the old twitter.
It really felt like you could dip into worldwide conversations, and chat to anyone as equals. I like it here but it's different.
It seems that big money capitalism ruins everything it touches in the end :(
Pursuit of money at all costs is a terrible addiction. Sufferers should be treated, not voted into power.

NOBODY should be rich enough to buy something half a billion people are using, and completely ruin it.

To stop kids getting #polio or #measles and to stop the planet getting cooked.
He SHOULD be paying for this, but he's not, and it needs to be done.
If whatever else you'd be doing does that more efficiently, your time is probably better spent on that.
But for anyone still spending time on #Twitter - rating #CommunityNotes is much more useful than arguing in the comments getting buried under #BlueTicks

@haentz it's hard because the size of Twitter and the presence of so many of the world's politicians, charities and campaigns means it really does sway society. Musk plan to sway Twitter to the right while retaining most users is sadly working, I think, and given campaigns to do something about it there will be banned out of existence, we probably need places like Mastodon to be hold those discussions. #Twitter #Musk #BlueTicks

I was just skimming through the #TrumpTaxReturns #hashtag on #Twitter for a few minutes.
The one thing I did notice, was just how few :verified: #Blueticks I saw in the posts.
Admittedly, people who are posting that tag are likely to be lefties, but even so I am glad that #TwitterBlue isn't catching on.

#Mastodon got a brief piece on the #CBC #London morning show today. As usual, the media needs some absurdly simple anchor point to explain things and provide a takeaway, so they chose "too complicated" for the #Twitter alternative. It's a shame, because while M'odon does require more effort to learn, the real issue is that Musk's fascism and tolerance of hate speech hasn't been quite enough to nudge the freedom- and democracy-loving #BlueTicks over from what's comfortable.

I wouldn't want to filter out invalidated authors; I can appreciate many situations in which authors need to remain anonymous, but I'd like to know that so that I can judge what weight I put on the content, and whether or not to engage.

@katesparkle #BlueTicks As I understand it, there is only a mechanism for proving that you have HTML write access to a web page (which gets you a tick - see my profile). That web site has a registered domain, so you could trace the site owner back to that, but there is nothing stopping anyone giving false information to the domain registrar.
A 'white hat' can use an HTTPS web certificate issued by an authority which checks legal identity (personal or corporate), but its expensive and optional.

I think Twitter became a shouting room. It might take longer to get conversations started here but they tend to be conversations.
I think the problem with Twitterarti, especially the blue ticks, is they still want to preach and it's not that kind of platform. They won't get that validation necessarily.
I do wonder how many will stay.
Perhaps they should start a platform of their own, if that's what they want.
