Wrapping up travels in Asheville.
Spent the yesterday exploring the River Arts District and taking pictures of random wall art around the city.
Discovered a bunch of new artists that I'll need to share via a much longer article later. Definitely enjoyed how easy it was to explore all of the art galleries and shops.
Definitely glad, given these hard times, I could take time to explore Asheville and the surrounding area.

I just did a write-up of #BlueRidgeRuby it really was a lovely conference with great conversations. The organizers @blueridgeruby did a wonderful job of making sure conversations and community building were huge part of the conference. I loved getting to meet and hangout with @ChaelCodes @tcannonfodder @kevin_j_m @jeremysmithco and so many more people in our #ruby community. Read it here or on https://christine-seeman.com/blue-ridge-ruby-2026/

Spent yesterday traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. Made it to Mount Mitchell but no further since the hurricane damaged the rest of the path.
We then retraced the road, heading South into Pisgah National Forest to cross over Mount Pisgah.
Beautiful day with clear views. Definitely made me wish we were on our motorcycle again (as I do miss those days).

Attended the Biltmore Luminere (https://www.biltmore.com/things-to-do/events/luminere) show last night which was a fun experience.
The light show on the house, especially the stencil detail, was nice. Definitely enjoyed the "living stone" effect (for lack of a better description) in the gardens after. Was nice to see the statues you saw during the day come alive where the stones became a portal into another universe.

To follow up from my previous post, a few more flowers while walking through the Bilmore gardens.
-
Spent yesterday enjoying the Biltmore Estate. The house was fun to explore but the gardens and larger grounds are quite spectacular. Captured a few photos.

Fun discoveries while walking through Asheville yesterday.
- Asheville on Deck: The Flood Collection. The sales help artists hit by a major hurricane flood (see attached photo).

So excited to attend my first @blueridgeruby conference!
@jeremysmithco kicking off day one of the conference. ♥️
-
I wrote up some of my thoughts from #BlueRidgeRuby; the most important of which are:
- It was an absolute blast!
- Support your regional conferences!
- We need to goof off morehttps://microblog.thomascannon.me/2024/06/02/blue-ridge-ruby.html
-
These two slides from @ChaelCodes had me simultaneously (internally) cheering “LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK" then immediately laughing so much that I forgot to grab a photo; but the slides are on her site! https://www.chael.codes/talks/2024/05/31/validate-me.html

What root beer taught me about B2B sales #BlueRidgeRuby

@tcannonfodder It would great to meet you too.
One of the really great things last year was that it was single track, so it was very much a shared experience.I live in Atlanta so it’s not a bad drive. They did a really great job last year - excited to see what they do this year. I was hoping to go to the UK in June and attend Brighton Ruby this year but that’s looking increasingly unlikely, which makes #BlueRidgeRuby much more likely.
-
I’m going to be at @blueridgeruby, who else is going to be there? #BlueRidgeRuby
-
Last week at #BlueRidgeRuby, we heard a lot of great #ruby talks. I compiled a brief summary of the program from @blueridgeruby
-
I had a great time at #BlueRidgeRuby. Some great talks, some things to think about and explore, some new acquaintances, and a wonderful couple of days in a beautiful city. Thanks to @jeremysmithco and @marklocklear for organizing a fantastic event.

Ifat Ribon is ready at #BlueRidgeRuby to help us learn how to integrate POROs in our professional development.

-
Getting ready for day 2 of #BlueRidgeRuby @kevin_j_m is posting great content, follow him or the hashtag for updates

I am not a seasoned conference attendee but I really enjoyed Day 1 of #BlueRidgeRuby.
The talks have been great, single track prevents FOMO, and the deliberate spacing of talks has led to some great hallway conversations. -
Just had a great time giving my talk at @blueridgeruby. So glad to see regional #Ruby conferences making a comeback. Thank you @jeremysmithco, @marklocklear, and others for putting together such a great inaugural event.
-
Listening to Annie Kiley at #BlueRidgeRuby about the importance of maintenance.
-
Next we have Caleb Hearth at #BlueRidgeRuby to discuss rspec. The content may be bad, but the talk should be good!
