I’m to a point in my life again where I need my little filmstrip to run through my head as I try to drift off to sleep. I developed this process last year when things were literally life and death with my brother and then with my father. Pulling up images in my head, like a filmstrip.
I’m preparing to take the long road trip back to Michigan where I will spend the next two months sorting through their things at Dad’s old house. And then Dad’s burial this autumn. I don’t want to leave my safe little bubble at home but I know I need to do this.
This short little video is from today when I went up onto the Blue Ridge Parkway to clear my head. No wind. Just birds singing.

My wife says this is a pipe vine swallowtail. They were swarming the native pink azaleas along the mountainside.
Took Mom and Dad up on the Blue Ridge Parkway today. It´s hard for them to do a lot of walking, but they loved the trillium, wild geraniums, dogwoods, and native pink azaleas all blooming at different elevations along the road and overlook paths.
Came home from my outing via the parkway and wow has it greened up quick..
I shot a few rolls and sheets of #IlfordFP4 over the last few weeks, so I'm finally ready for a few entries for #FP4Party.
I'll start with a shot from my #Graflex in/near #Asheville. This particular shot was from an overlook on the #BlueRidgeParkway heading toward Craggy Gardens. Shot with a red filter. The 3000 px resolution doesn't do it justice…zooming in on the treeline on the full 4x5 scan is awesome. I've included a snippet of a screenshot as an example.

This was taken in December 2021, overlooking Thunder Ridge from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The clouds moving through the mountains and that quiet, watchful tree have stayed with me ever since. Some images don’t just live in an album — they become places the mind returns to for comfort.

A breathtaking March visit (a couple years ago) to Mabry Mill (on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia), seeing it in winter light when the trees were bare and the landscape stripped down to its quiet essentials.
Without leaves or lush greenery, the mill, water, and surrounding hills felt even more striking—reflections perfectly mirrored, colors softened, and light doing all the work.
It was exhilarating to witness how stunning this place can be in its quieter season, reminding me that beauty doesn’t depend on abundance.

2. Beautiful autumn day today with a temp of 60F/15.5C.
