If you have a #DVD or #Blueray player, a #computer with a #CDROM drive, any of several #gameConsoles, etc in the house, then you have a #CDplayer. Check the closets and the attic. Check the console of the "older car" in the driveway. I bet there's a way for you #genZ folks who bought CDs with "no way to play them" to, in fact, play them :)

I acquired a bit ago a nicely working DVD/BluRay/CD player with HDMI & spdif audio outputs for $15 from my local Goodwill, hooked into the 55" display & big speakers in my studio, for a home theater vibe. Nice thing is that it is also easy to rip DVD's to digital video files, and with Jellyfin on my OpenMediaVault server, easy to stream to other devices too. Versus a bigger payment for just a corporation's potentially rescinded promise towards future viewing access.

Once upon a time, given the relative costs of materials/time/energy/labor needed to create tangible formats like optical discs, made one of the big selling points of streaming, besides obvious 'convenience', was that it was almost always less expensive for the consumer. While streaming certainly has costs to produce - needing lots of servers & CDN's for encoding, hosting & delivery - this should still end up being a fraction per stream compared to what it takes to manufacture, package & deliver optical discs made out of plastics and metals. So seems to me what we've seen of late is the media corporations raising in concert rates for streaming, with profit margins on these ballooning, while the last of the optical disc manufacturing plants, have reduced their profit margins to the bare minimum. The result is an inversion in pricing between the tangible & virtual options for many releases now. And for those of us interested in lasting & ready access to specific works of art, and for those of us that value "digital sovereignty", against a marketing system working to make these things more scarce, the tangible options are looking increasingly attractive.

Voulant faire découvrir Ready Player One, je lance le film sur Netflix alors qu'habituellement je mets le BlueRay.
Quel déception sur la dynamique et la puissance sonore. Y'a rien que dalle peanuts sur Netflix, c'est plat 😱
Le support physique à encore une bonne longueur d'avance sur le streaming. Pas que ce ne soit pas réalisable techniquement, mais ça coûterait trop cher de balancer la qualité BR UHD.

На написание этой статьи меня сподвигнуло прослушивание выпуска подкаста Запуск завтра - Цифровая хрупкость. Как сохранить важное в сети (Episode 8 Season 13) . После которого у меня сложилось впечатление что гостья не разбирается в архивации, хотя вроде бы эксперт, а Самат называет не верные факты, например он говорит, что данные на LTO лентах хранятся до 100 лет, хотя даже производители на упаковке пишут 30 лет. По этому я решил сделать максимально полный обзор на все типы физических носитиелей которые доступны обычному человеку сегодня. FDD , NAND , CD , DVD , BD , SSD , HDD , LTO . А также попробую посчитать экономику и разобраться когда например выгоднее оставаться на HDD, а когда уже пора переходить на LTO.

Das erste mal seit Jahren mal wieder den BlueRay Player angeschlossen. Bisher alles gestreamt, aber die vielen DVDs und BlueRays wollten dann doch mal wieder gespielt werden. Technisch läuft alles. Waren da nicht IMAX Szenen, die nicht in Cinemascope gefilmt waren, sondern am heimischen TV in 16:9 und damit größer wirkten?

Ich kramte in meiner Erinnerung und anschließend in meinem Film-Regal in der Abteilung Superhelden-Filme. Da, die BluRay. Player angeworfen und Disc eingelegt.

Das erste, das mir auffällt auf meinem 1080p Fernseher: Die Bildqualität ist besser, als jene von #apple #itunes. Die Streaming-Fassung kann allerdings bis zu 4k. Nun gut. Und da war sie, die erste IMAX Szene, in der der Joker eingeführt wird. Ja, ich habe mich korrekt erinnert.

Warum diese Fassung beim Kauf der digitalen Streaming-Fassung nicht dabei ist, immerhin sind zahlreiche Boni dabei, ist mir ein Rätsel. Die 4k Disc-Fassung des Films ist leider immer noch recht teuer. Vor allem als Sammlung mit allen drei BATMAN-Filmen von Christopher Nolan.

Das erste, das mir auffällt auf meinem 1080p Fernseher: Die Bildqualität ist besser, als jene von #apple #itunes. Die Streaming-Fassung kann allerdings bis zu 4k. Nun gut. Und da war sie, die erste IMAX Szene, in der der Joker eingeführt wird. Ja, ich habe mich korrekt erinnert.

Warum diese Fassung beim Kauf der digitalen Streaming-Fassung nicht dabei ist, immerhin sind zahlreiche Boni dabei, ist mir ein Rätsel. Die 4k Disc-Fassung des Films ist leider immer noch recht teuer. Vor allem als Sammlung mit allen drei BATMAN-Filmen von Christopher Nolan.

Kauft Filme auf Datenträgern ... :-)

BR vs. Streaming: Der Datenträger gewinnt immer. Außer bei der Bequemlichkeit.

Ich habe mir gestern Abend nach dem Film THUNDERBOLTS von MARVEL noch ein wenig BATMAN geben wollen und startete digital den Film "The Dark Knight". Ca. 30 Minuten im film wunderte ich mich. Waren da nicht IMAX Szenen, die nicht in Cinemascope gefilmt waren, sondern am heimischen TV in 16:9 und damit größer wirkten?

Ich kramte in meiner Erinnerung und anschließend in meinem Film-Regal in der Abteilung Superhelden-Filme. Da, die BluRay. Player angeworfen und Disc eingelegt.

Hallo Leute, ich beabsichtige mir einen externen Blueray-Player zuzulegen. Alle meine Rechner haben Linux Mint.
Gibts da irgendetwas zu beachten ? Läuft der wie mein externer DVD-Player ?
Üblicherweise speicher ich mir meine DVD-Filme von der DVD auf HDD und rechne den dann mit Handbrake um für meinen Mediaserver. Geht das mit BR genau so ?
Dann würde ich mir meine erste BR besorgen :wink:
