  1. Artemis II: Stunning ‘Hello, World’ Image of Earth Explained

NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman captured the "Hello, World" image of Earth from Orion on April 2, 2026. The image's unique perspective prompts critical thinking about geography, highlighting Earth's scale and human impact. Educators are encouraged to use the photo as a teaching tool, fostering discussions on Earth's condition and visual interpretation.

  2. There's more than just a part of the Orion spacecraft and the Moon in this picture.
    We also see Earth.
Every human, animal, and plant currently alive is in this photo.

  3. Same marble, same fragile planet.
    Same turmoil beneath the clouds.
Same senseless wars, same stupid „leaders“.
    Same hopes, same sorrows.
Same hope we’ll have advanced 50 years on.

  4. Confirmed that Al Gore had this photo on his office wall in the White House during the Clinton administration:

“When I moved into my office in the West Wing of the White House in January of 1993, I asked NASA for a very large version of that [Apollo 17 Blue Marble] picture to put on my wall... It stayed there for eight years.”

  5. I found another photo of Al Gore as VP in front of the Blue Marble, I am assuming this is at the White House but not definite.

  6. Was this photo of the Grateful Dead with Al Gore taken in the West Wing? Did the Clinton White House have a huge print of the Apollo 17 Blue Marble photo on the wall?

  7. "Among the other changes that have occurred since that first image of the entire Earth 50 years ago is the amount of human development and activity on our planet's surface. Although not visible in these images of the daylight side of the Earth, other satellites monitor for lights visible on the dark side of our planet. These show dramatic expansions in the urban sprawl across the continents alongside the activity of shipping on the Earth's oceans."

  8. Saludos, @akaludovico. Pasa y ponte cómodo. Estoy contigo en que ninguna red social nos salvará de nada, aunque alguna (esta) nos ayude a estar en sintonía con lo que queda de humanidad en esta jodida canica azul.

  9. Had a fabulous end of #Winnipeg visit dinner at the #BlueMarble restaurant & lounge, at the #YWG airport. Our mgr fell sick for most of the work trip so we didn't have our customary team dinner together. I had the #beefshortribs with mash & my colleague had the fish & chips. #ywgeats #winnipegfood #ywgfood

  10. A few weeks ago I posted my version of a colour corrected image of the Blue Marble. Back again, this time with a little animation showing the before/after.

  11. As people debate the costs, timeline, difficulties and challenges of keeping our planet habitable, it helps to have a reminder of what our (realistic) alternatives are (we don't have any).

  12. Took a stab at colour correcting the RAW image of the Blue Marble. It’s not perfect and probably not accurate, hey I’ve never been to space! It is such an iconic photo and I never realized (until I read the Wikipedia article) that it’s one of the most reproduced photograph in history. Mega, awesome, awe-inspiring: our world.
