  1. The NTSB investigated two fatal 2024 crashes involving vehicles using Ford Motor Company’s hands-free partial automation system, BlueCruise, failed to stop for stationary vehicles.

The NTSB concluded that the drivers’ over reliance on the automated system contributed to both crashes. The driver monitoring systems were also found to be ineffective at detecting driver distraction or disengagement.

The NTSB called out that there are no federal requirements for these systems to record data during crashes, which often means that manufacturers lack information to comply with NHTSA’s standing general order requiring them to report crashes involving this technology.

  6. All of these self driving services are promising customers that they don't have to focus on driving. That's the entire premise of the service!

To then throw the customer under the bus when the inevitable occurs feels like fraud.

If people don't want to drive so much, maybe invest more in public transit?

  8. @adamjcook I totally agree with you, this is not, and should not be labeled as "self driving". And, I believe that Teslas should not be allowed to use the term "Full Self Driving" as it is both misleading and dangerous.

Ford appears to use the term "hands free", but I don't believe they ever say "Self Driving".

  9. My god, no.

If a vehicle requires the human driver to be attentive to the dynamic driving task at all times… then it is **not** capable of “self-driving” at **any time.**

#Ford’s #BlueCruise system is a partial automated driving system.
