  1. ... We don't see the Blow Monkeys or Sylvia Teller again, sadly.

We do get to hear a lot more about public choice theory, not least from Adam Curtis's various documentary series.

Public choice theory itself, being from economics, does not describe the real world at all accurately, but nobody ever tells the political economists that they are the intellectual equivalent of a Jive Bunny record.

  6. ... Dr. Robert and Sylvia Teller (in a very neon lime green dress) can sing how "It's your choice, it's no choice at all."

A groove with the message lyrics buried a little too deeply. But it's a) accurate b) danceable to get in the right ears and c) popular amongst the record-buying public, many of whom will not have heard of Arrow's paradox...

  11. "Choice" - The Blow Monkeys and Sylvia Teller

This song is a critique of public choice theory as proposed by James Buchanan, refined by Friedrich Hayek, and implemented by Norman Tebbit and Margaret Thatcher.

The idea claims that politicians and decision-makers are motivated by selfish desires rather than a genuine ambition to serve the public, and hence that the best decisions are those arrived at through market competition...

  16. The Queen of England Janice Long, here with court jester John Peel. This ep was shown as a Mystery Year in 2023.

The Blow Monkeys - "It doesn't have to be"

Dr. Robert is wearing some Cyrillic writing on his jumper, but the focus of attention seems to be the saxophonist, who tootles throughout the track.

The group somehow manage to look lost on the diamond stage, which is usually packed to the rafters.

  21. I'm currently having a little groove about to the new #BlowMonkeys album after going to see them play on a whim the other night.

As usual I've got my finger on the pulse, I've become a fan - 40 years after everyone else 😅

  26. I went to see the #BlowMonkeys at our local independent music venue Strings last night.
Mainly because I love Strings and I needed some #LiveMusic back in my life.

I wasn't sure what to expect but my word they were on 🔥
It was a fantastic night, I never stopped dancing, despite only knowing a couple of songs. They were incredible. Had a nice chat with Dr Robert afterwards too 😊

  31. Looks like I'm going to see the #BlowMonkeys on Sunday as they're playing my favourite local live venue.
I don't know anything about them, aside from a couple of the hits.
Should be a good night out though and always worth trying to support grassroot music venues. #LiveMusic

  36. CW: TOTP 1987, swears

#TOTP with John Peel and Janice Long. Peelie's last appearance until 1995.

Lots of close-ups in the #BlowMonkeys performance, but the group seem to get lost on the huge stage.

#RandyCrawford a favourite of Steve Wright In The Afternoon. Not my bag, then or now.

"No bad language on this show", promises John, after #JoolsHolland referred to «groovy fuckers» on a live trailer just before the Friday show. Producers Peter McHugh and Royston Mayoh were fired from #TheTube.
