  1. Post-Punk Trio Bloodworm Shares “Bloodlust”

Nottingham’s Bloodworm today share “Bloodlust”, their first single of 2026 and an immediate introduction to a band who arrive fully-formed.

Honing their craft across formative shows over the last eighteen months, the band have already been the subject of feverish word of mouth attention and amassed a significant fanbase at home, selling out The Bodega as headliners at Halloween, and at one of their recent, earliest London shows, Richard Oakes of Suede happened to be in the audience by chance – so impressed was he by the young trio that they were offered, and will now support, on the band’s 17 date sold-out tour starting at the end of this month.

The atmospheric “Bloodlust” is paired to a video by Seth Lloyd, and is a slice of shadowy post-punk which harks back to a classic age. An immediate, propulsive bassline and shimmering guitars bring to mind the likes of The Cure, The Sound and Echo & The Bunnymen.

Of the new single, the band’s frontman George Curtis says:

‘”‘Bloodlust’ was written about the duality of relationships and the angst of being stuck in a small town. We had the raw excitement of starting something new and just not really caring about anything else aside from the music itself. We’ve really tried to capture the feeling of that energy in the recording.”

Further new music from Bloodworm will follow in 2026.

  2. My hematocrit has been low my last few blood tests... because of gender!

Last September I changed my chart gender to be nonbinary. Instead of expanding the gender range to include the male & female ranges, they assigned me the male range. Because of course.

Now my hematocrit is low, despite actually being in the AFAB range. luv 2 gender

  3. So, I had blood work done recently. I have it done regularly as I have high cholesterol. The doctor wants to check to ensure my meds are working. This time I had a testosterone panel.

My numbers came back fine. Close to the middle-ish of the "normal" range for a man of my age.

I did need to get it checked. Overall I'm fine and there's no indication of medical issues based on my testosterone levels

A lot of men tend not to talk about this or other types of testing for themselves. I know my Dad never really did.

    We should.

There's no shame in whatever your testosterone levels are, regardless of what the back or your mind or society tries to tell you.

Anyway - stay healthy. Be kind to yourself. Fight the lies society tells you.

  4. I was today years old when I learned that black coffee is fine to have before fasting bloodwork. I’ve been making my life harder than it needs to be 🫣😂

  5. Given the extreme variability in my emotions since beginning patches, I agree that's highly likely.

Test again after 6 weeks. Move to two twice weekly patches then if warranted.

  6. I got the results from the retest of my E level. It was 33, on day 6 of a weekly patch (0.1 mg.day). The doctor changed my Rx to (same level) but twice weekly.

She was of the opinion that "weekly patches don't really last a week" and I was likely experiencing significant peaks and valleys.

  7. Quote from the doctor:

"Prolactin levels may be increased in transgender women who are taking both estrogens and an antiandrogen. High prolactin levels can cause headaches, problems with eyesight, and low bone density."

As for the estrogen? I already knew it was too low. I've been weepy and overly emotional since going on the patch. I anticipate hearing from the doctor about an Rx change for my patches.

  8. Followup to missing estradiol level:

There "was a problem" with my E level last week. I went in for a new draw yesterday, and got the results this morning.

My level is 33 pg/mL. That's still significantly low for me. I need to be in the 150-200 range for my emotional health.

FWIW: The prolactin test was ordered intentionally. Apparently, that hormone can sometimes be too high in trans women on E and an anti-androgen.

  9. The estradiol level is the one I was most interested in because the last time it was done it was far too low (26). That was after switching to patches. As a result, my patch dose was increased, with the plan to have levels checked again mid-February.

Then life, and domestic assault, happened, and that followup didn't happen. So I haven't been tested for E levels since late last year, or at all on current dose.

  10. I've received some test results from yesterday's HRT followup with the new provider. I think the lab ran the wrong test. They reported a prolactin level, as well as the usual metabolic panel, and T level.

They didn't report an estradiol level, which was of course the one I cared most about. I've messaged the provider to ask about those results. I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any idea of a valid reason to run prolactin on a #trans woman.

  11. Bloodwork Update 11

Oh snappers it’s another one of these, and yes, I have not forgotten about Bloodwork even if I’m writing this two hours before it goes up!

    The world has changed.

Not the world of Bloodwork! It’s still an early 2020s retrocurrent 1990s Vampire Fiction space where a war has broken out between the old vampire organisations and the young […]

  12. CW: Mention of needles/blood draw

I checked my email before calling the specialist’s office about the lab requisition. It came through as I was asking them about it!

They’re testing everything under the sun just like last time. It was more than 20 vials of blood last time so I know I can get through it again. I don’t like needles + felt like I was going to pass out last time. I kept saying to myself: “I’m okay…I’m okay…I’m okay” as I looked the other way.
