    Flame and Shadow

    Olympian Awakenings Book 3

    A titan is rising.
And this time, the world may not survive.

Fire-wielder Zoey has spent her life afraid of her own power. Ancient soldier Alexios has spent centuries believing he was nothing more than a weapon. Together, they’ve survived monsters, gods, and impossible quests—but nothing prepares them for Kronos’s final move.

As fractures tear open between worlds, monsters pour into the mortal realm and the boundary between life and death begins to collapse. When a desperate sacrifice strands Zoey in the Underworld itself, ancient warrior Alexios must defy gods, fate, and death to bring her home—before she loses her memories… and herself.

The final battle will demand everything from all six champions who have fought side by side: fire and storm, stone and steel, courage, sacrifice, and unbreakable trust.

Because defeating a Titan will take more than power.

It will take a family forged in battle—and two souls willing to burn for each other and the world they refuse to lose.

The explosive conclusion to the Olympian Awakenings trilogy delivers epic Greek mythology, found family, and a sweeping romantic finale where love and legend collide.

    Elliah ~ 1

My mother told me many times that all adolescents feel like they don’t belong, but… I really didn’t. So I spent my free time away from other elves, on my own but for the animals… they didn’t understand how broken I was. And I was quite pleased with my current find, so I snarled when a noise behind me scared away the drakeling that had settled in my hands. Black with a pattern of red scales along its spine, its body the thickness of my finger, it took flight with a flurry of thin leathery wings and disappeared behind a massive brown trunk.

“The real ones are much more intimidating,” said an unfamiliar voice.

Time slowed as I tensed to run, shocked that I’d let my guard down so much that anyone had gotten that close. How many lurked behind me? On the outskirts of town, in the thick of the woods near the river, I had expected solitude.

“Stay, Bereft. I am not afraid,” said the voice. His words provoked me.

“No one’s afraid of me,” I blurted. Bitterness stained my words as surely as the pollen of the bloodcups had stained my ragged clothes.

I turned away from the vanished drakeling to focus on the intruder who’d scared it away. A man. No, I corrected myself, someone my age. Someone not quite old enough for adults to consider one of their own, but too old to call a child.

But not Bereft. No other elf shared that with me.

The newcomer was slightly taller than me with a thin frame, his light hair hanging long, wild, and tangled. He was new to the village—I would have noticed an elf with skin so light. I’d heard whispers of him at school. Kethryllia had called him Salt-kissed, and I’d wondered what that meant, but his light skin answered that question. He’d undoubtedly caught whispers about me, heard of my… condition. Bereft. Yet at that moment, I thought only of the hours of coaxing I’d spent to draw the little drakeling into my grasp, and that the stupid elf had scared it away. I wanted to punch him.

“Maybe they should be,” he said, taking a step back, though it would have taken me two leaps to get to him, and he’d have me pinned in one, if he had any skill with magic at all. But I’d prepared a leap already, only not in his direction. As I sprung away, he continued, raising his voice, “And you’re right, they’re not afraid of you.”

I landed with a tree between us. His magic wouldn’t be able to snag me there. Unless he was very good at it.

“They’re afraid of what you represent.”

Magic is as natural as breathing in Elliah’s world — except to her. Born without a single spark in a war that runs on it, she has nothing but her will and her refusal to accept the limits everyone else has already decided for her. by Steven J. Morris

    Genre: Urban Fantasy

    Magic isn’t real.
Red Hernandez is very sure of that.

She wants a quiet life after Special Forces—just a steady security job at a half-finished Manhattan skyscraper.

But then a sister tower implodes in a way physics can’t explain.
Witnesses report creatures in the smoke.
And something hunts her in the tunnels beneath.

Red wants answers. What she gets instead is an elf with a sword, a troll with a wry sense of humor, and a dwarf who believes every battle requires an audience. They insist an ancient enemy has crossed into our world—and Red becomes an accidental gatekeeper simply because she’s standing on the fault line when it cracks open.

As a hidden war erupts in the shadows of New York City, Red must decide: run from the past that nearly destroyed her… or fight for a world she’s only just beginning to believe in.

A veteran with nothing left to lose.
A threat born of magic and shadow.
A team she never saw coming.

The Guardian of the Palace launches the action-packed Guardian League series—perfect for fans of urban fantasy, modern-world magic, found family, and heroines who refuse to back down.

    Prologue

Corpses patterned the ground as far as my eye could see, a patchwork quilt of death.

I stood atop a skeletal tower, overlooking the broken ruins of an ancient civilization, so very far from home. I envisioned the beauty that the soaring arches once held, the bridges between the constructs reaching out with broken arms, buildings leaning against one another like ancient lovers in a final embrace. Crumbled remains powdered the bases of former statues, and, everywhere, all of it was littered with the dead.

Like a phoenix, I stood, bathed in fire. An Angel of Death. Not the Angel of Death—he was an ass.

A part of me wanted to go down and see for myself. Maybe just to make sure… to make sure I had done my job… and killed everyone that used to inhabit that world. The magic I was wielding should have destroyed them all—something inside of me could feel that it had—but I wanted to see it.

Yet I knew that was unrealistic. I didn’t have the time. There were other worlds that needed my infection, and Earth was on my shortlist.

    Chapter 1

Red – Day 20, Sunday, the day after the attack

“Ms. Hernandez?” a muffled voice called from a distance, accompanied by a gentle rapping on a door. My consciousness registered the interruption as a nuisance and pulled me back under.

What seemed like seconds later, the rapping came again, more insistent. “Ms. Hernandez.”

Ms. Hernandez was my mom… why were they bothering me?

Then a scraping sound, and an alarmed voice. “Ms. Hernandez! Are you okay?”

Some scrambling, some grunts, more scraping… shit, I was going to have to wake up. Why couldn’t they just let me sleep?

I tried to answer, but my throat was dry and nothing came out. Coughing, I attempted to sit up, not wholly returned from my trip to dreamland. “I’m here. I’m okay.” Was I though? I wasn’t sure.

I was in my flat. Not the desert. My door was partway open, and a slightly overweight man had paused in the act of pushing his way in. I recognized him, but his name escaped me. Swinging my legs off my cot, I did a quick modesty check. I was fully dressed, though rather tragically, in some semblance of civilian fatigues—muddied, disheveled, and a little bloody.

The reason came screaming back to me. There had been creatures, unearthly monsters, in The Palace. They’d done things I could not explain by any of the rules I knew. And they’d beaten the hell out of me and then patched me back up in a matter of seconds. I’d blown the head clean off of one of them and fled the scene.

    Not my smartest move.

Earth, through its technological advances, supports nearly eight billion souls; from a cosmic perspective, that makes it ripe for the picking. ‘Red’ Hernandez, trying to put a questionable military life behind her, finds herself caught in the middle of stopping an apocalyptic invasion of Earth. 13. Takeover + Review Blitz: A Brewed Awakening by Pepper Basham

Welcome to the Takeover + Review Blitz for A Brewed Awakening by Pepper Basham, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

    About the Book

    Title: A Brewed Awakening
    Author: Pepper Basham
    Publisher: Thomas Nelson
    Release Date: May 5, 2026
    Genre: Small Town Contemporary Romance

Daphne dreams of Mr. Darcy. Finn serves up pints and rock music. Can opposites attract when a tea shop princess meets her pub-owning rival?

In the charming mountain town of Wisteria, North Carolina, Daphne Austen clings to tradition like cream to a scone. She’s built her life–and her late grandmother’s tearoom, Tea Thyme–around all things English: delicate china, Jane Austen novels, and the comforting predictability of routine. The only thing threatening her perfectly ordered world? The loud, aggravatingly handsome Brit opening a pub next door.

After his ex-wife broke his heart and his business partner nearly destroyed his career, Finn Dashwood packed up his six-year-old daughter and left England behind. He’s looking for a fresh start, and the last thing he needs is a fussy, tea-obsessed neighbor criticizing his every pint and playlist. It doesn’t matter that she’s ridiculously kind (to everyone else) and that his daughter is utterly fascinated by her. Finn’s heart is not open to being broken again.

But disagreements turn into prank wars and then a competition when a high-profile wedding needs a last-minute caterer. The townsfolk are thrilled–Wisteria hasn’t seen this much excitement since the county fair lost a goat.

When the wedding demands both sweet and savory fare, Daphne and Finn are forced to put down their swords and pick up their serving trays. Between burnt pastries, brewing tempers, trending hashtags (#SipsAndSpats, anyone?), and one very adorable little girl, rivalry soon gives way to reluctant friendship–and maybe something that feels suspiciously like chemistry.

Can a tea shop princess and a pub owner with a past mix their lives as seamlessly as clotted cream and jam . . . or will their differences keep them steeped in rivalry forever?

    About the Author

Pepper Basham is an award-winning author who writes romance “peppered” with grace and humor. Writing both historical and contemporary novels, she loves to incorporate her native Appalachian culture and/or her unabashed adoration of the UK into her stories. She currently resides in the lovely mountains of southwestern VA, where she is a wife, mom to five great kids, a speech-language pathologist, and a lover of chocolate, jazz, hats, and Jesus.

    My Review

There is much to love about Basham’s latest release: the messages of hope and resilience, the beauty of strong, supportive community… the princess-obsessed six-year-old darling named Lucy. The cast of characters (in Basham’s usual style) was hilarious and distinct, and I loved the over-involvement of Wisterian citizens in Finn and Daphne’s love lives. They really didn’t stand a chance. From Granny D. to Mr. Rutherfurton to Pastor Nate to Daphne’s own brother, there was no shortage of individuals eager to put in their two cents (and I mean in the betting sense).

The premise of A Brewed Awakening is so fun, and I am a Daphne girl all the way–give me heels, pink, pretty teacups, and all things British any day. (Although I really want one of Finn’s molten chocolate cakes, if I’m being entirely honest.) Finn was charming as all get out, of course, and his and Daphne’s banter was top notch. I loved the way their shared love for food and their kindness was what ultimately brought them together.

That said, I do have a gripe about the enemies-to-lovers trope here–the physical attraction felt SO heavy and almost lustful at points through the first half of the book, and it wasn’t until they started getting to know each other as friends that their relationship really shifted to include character-based attraction. I get it. They had to hate each other, but simultaneously… want each other? I just didn’t love how it played out on-page, personally. I enjoyed it once better once we got past the halfway point!

Overall, though, I really enjoyed A Brewed Awakening (and want to experiment with some new recipes!) but I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite from Basham. I’m really looking forward to Pride & Practicality’s release, though!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

    My Review

The Hidden Key of Brooke Sumner brings the Treasures of Halstead Manor series to a thrilling conclusion, once again taking Everleigh, Natalie, Brooke, and their entourage on a mind-bending adventure (which I’ll admit I struggled to keep up with at times). Tuttle capitalizes on found family, bodyguard, and friends to enemies to more tropes in this finale, and she held my attention from the opening pages.

Contentious as it was, I loved Storm and Brooke’s relationship and all their banter. The foundation of their childhood friendship shone through in every encounter, and I loved reading about all the ways they came through for each other as children. I will admit I was annoyed that Storm couldn’t reveal everything to Brooke until near the end of the book, but it was necessary to the plot, I suppose.

Tuttle is NOT easy on her characters. The stakes were high from page one, both for Brooke and for Storm in his own issue. Watching Brooke navigate her pain was hard at times, and I wish the faith content could have been a bit more consistent throughout–the end revelation felt a bit too neat and pretty. I liked the message that we can have peace through the storms of life when we put our trust in Jesus, but I don’t think it’s always quite so easy as simply making a choice. It’s a daily battle.

I liked the look at how the foster care system can adversely impact kiddos, especially if they’re passed from home to home and never adopted. As for the romance, the romantic tension between Brooke and Storm felt a bit excessive at times, and Storm really played into it, but I guess their friendship made it feel less bothersome than it otherwise might have been.

It was exciting to finally discover more of Caspar’s story, and the ending was shocking–it definitely tied up some loose threads I’ve been wondering about through the book and series. Overall a satisfactory read, and much cleaner than book 2 (I wasn’t comfortable with fade-to-black between a married couple, which might be fine for others!)

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

    My Review

There was a lot that I loved about this book–the setting, the filming elements, the healthy dating relationship between Sophie and Jake. I also liked the parental involvement (and disappointment and consequences) because I feel YA fiction sometimes likes to ignore that parents exist. The opening hooked me pretty quickly, and the end was WILD. But a few aspects made this book harder to enjoy.

I liked Sophie and Jake and the naturalness of their relationship… the way that they’re mostly friends doing life together with an occasional kiss that honestly didn’t feel sensual at all. I liked the discussion throughout the book about setting boundaries and following them, and the care that Sophie and Jake put into ensuring their relationship remains pure. I also liked how they both had their own interesting pursuits going on outside of their relationship.

I think the delicate balance of realistic teen angst vs. annoying teen angst can be difficult to navigate, and while most of Sophie and Jake’s decisions felt reasonable (despite being foolish at times), there was a lot of relational drama in their friendships. Jon and Rick showing up during filming just to anger Jake felt weird, and I didn’t like Jake’s responses to them for much of the book. For him being such a chill and kind guy, there seemed like such a lack of understanding. And then there was a blowup between best friends about keeping secrets, with your typical “I ALWAYS tell you EVERYTHING. Are we even friends?”, which felt very overly dramatic.

Without having read the prior books in the series, I definitely missed out on some of the buildup and couldn’t fully appreciate the villain reveal, but I did enjoy the mystery elements and the intense scenes at the end. The final reveal, however, felt completely out of left field and honestly disappointing. I feel the author could have either planted clues or picked someone more reasonable.

I did enjoy this book–three stars on Goodreads means I liked it. I just didn’t appreciate some of the elements included.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
