  1. James and I have come up with a collaborative writing project that you’re welcome to join as well!

    The idea is to share your thoughts on a poem through writing: there are no restrictions on the format, as long as you publish your words on your website. Let us know when you’ve written something, so we can add a link to your submission at the end of our posts.

    The poem is "Repeat that, repeat" by Gerard Manley Hopkins (pictured and included in the posts).

    Read our thoughts at:

    jamesg.blog/2026/07/13/repeat-

    And

    kedara.eu/repeat-that-repeat/

    And if you're inspired, we'd be happy to read yours!

  5. New post on the blog: Data sovereignty through a historical lens. Enclosure acts, sharecropping, company towns, and why the Fediverse matters.

    It is not a tutorial. I am just thinking out loud about why I'm doing this.

  8. Writers and bloggers, does this happen to you?

    You sit down to write a weeknote or some journal entry, but suddenly, one of the topics becomes really long and you decide to split that off into its own separate post. You continue with your original piece (back to square one); but it happens again. 😅

  12. If you build it, they will come.

    Here's an article I wrote back in the spring about my bee hotel. Since then, several of the "apartments" have been occupied, and one or two look like they've been evicted (read: eaten) by whatever drilled its way in and had a snack. Cue the Disney soundtrack, "It's the Circle of Life," etc.

  19. I kept forgetting how I work around the issue of top-level await being borked in Safari when dealing with Astro islands, so I wrote myself a little reminder some of you might find useful.

  23. Danke für die Nachfrage zum psychologischen Schlüsselbegriff „Mimesis“, @TheSecondVariation 🙏

    Ich verwende ihn im Kontext der modernen Kognitions-, Evolutions- und Religionspsychologie:

    Mimesis = Nachahmung von Zielen

    in Erweiterung zur

    Imitation = Nachahmung von Verhalten

    Das passt auch sehr gut zur Mimesis-Theorie von Adorno & Horkheimer, die u.a. auf Kindheit und mediale Reklame (Werbung) verweisen.

    Psychologische Mimesis ist nicht nur beim Menschen, sondern auch z.B. bei Hunden nachgewiesen. Beim Frühmenschen gelten die Acheuléen-Faustkeile seit etwa 2 Millionen Jahre als sicherer Beleg für mimetisches Streben.
