National holiday, yay! Time to get some carving done. Showed my little sibling the hobby of carving stamps last week and they were so hooked that they bought everything they needed to start and on Tuesday we both were carving like maniacs then ☺️ that’s when I made these stamps.
I’m working on a whole Alice in Wonderland linoprint series and have the goal to complete at least two stamps today. Let’s hope I can get it done! These are test prints of the Cheshire Cat and the white rabbit. Working on the Caterpillar today and… not sure yet about the next stamp. These are all made to fit 3,5 x 2,5” cards ( #ArtistTradingCards).

I love the energy in his expression. It's interesting to me because these old Ukiyo-E prints aren't meant to be realistic, or they didn't hold realism up as a necessary quality, and yet there is enough there that it feels really consistent. In some of them the design is almost abstract and it takes me a while to figure out what is meant to be happening. In this one there is so much billowing fabric that I had no idea what his feet were doing at first, I think I have it now.
Look at that face. He's hunched up and squirming, so powerful are the forces in play 😁
