Today we hope to replace our eggs and some dairy that's been hard to find on Cape Cod. Grocers without power for days were scanning and dumping into bins on Friday. If I'd reacted better, maybe I could have saved some our stuff but the top of the fridge went warm fast. My mom said I should file a claim and my MIL said some of that cheese can still be used. :yikes: #foodwaste #blizzard2026

This was a massive blizzard for New England. Massachusetts Governor Healey put out a travel ban and Providence got 3 feet of snow.
Meanwhile, ICE tried (unsuccessfully) to fly a charter flight with deportees. They were stuck on the tarmac at a Portsmouth NH airport for 12 hours because… of course they were.
Life endangerment is so on brand for them.

Morning Mastodonians!
I normally wait until the end of the snowstorm to shovel out. My driveway is very short, and with two cars parked on it, there isn’t much to shovel. But my puny electric snowblower had a lot of trouble during the last snowstorm, so I figured I’d get ahead of things. I shoveled three times, and I think it helped, although the wind was howling, so there was plenty of drifting. I may brave the roads today to make a grocery run. I hope they have eggs.

Our street hasn't been plowed yet, but at least our driveway and sidewalk are clear.
It's our first blizzard and so far it's just a lot of work.

and now time for a third pass. It was still over two or 3 inches on the ground where I’ve shoveled already. But at least the snow plow driver was nice and didn’t block me in again. I think I can get the Subaru out in a pinch. I can definitely see how you need to watch out for your furnace and dryer outlets. My furnace outlet is a good 5 feet over the ground and still I have to think about it today. And the dryer outlet was almost covered. Craziness out there I tell you.

Second pass at shoveling #snow. There were a few places where the first pass helped. But just as many where there wasn't any noticeable change. Sigh. I'm so tired.

I started to write "The snowblower hit a rock" as if the snowblower had autonomy and did it all by itself. Its no fault of MIINE, no way. I have to replace a sheer pin but I'm soaking wet so taking a tea break and changing into dry things before i go finish up the driveway. #blizzard2026

And here I thought I was sick of #snow before! It’s only about halfway through this nor’easter, and we have probably a foot and a half of snow. I did something I don’t usually do: I shoveled before the storm ended. My little electric snowblower can’t handle the amount of predicted snow, so working on it halfway might help. But the wind is howling, and it’s probably going to drift up anyway. At least the dogs can get out the back door right now.

I got lost coming out of 14th/8th Ave subway station even though I've used that station thousands of times because everything is white out and I didn't know which corner I was at 😭
But I found this cute coffee shop on 14th St that is open in this blizzard! Definitely saved my day!
The barista said it took her 3 hours to commute this morning 😭 can we build more housing and better transit so people don't have to endure that?
