#Blinkist yay or nay?

Ich habe meist nicht die Geduld und Zeit ein langes Buch zu lesen. Geht mit seid dem Studium so.

Ich würde aber evtl. mal sowas wie Blinkist ausprobieren wollen und hätte auch Lust Bücher in kondensierter Form zu hören. Eher Wissen statt Romane. Romane lese ich dann doch lieber oder höre "ganze" Hörbücher.

Recently, we visited family in Alberta. While in the Edmonton airport waiting to board the plane back to Vancouver, I spotted Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe on a bookstore shelf. The title caught my eye immediately—but I knew I wouldn’t have time to add it to my already overflowing “to be read” stack this year. Still, something about the story called out to me. I wanted to know more—right away. So I turned to my Blinkist account, hoping there would be a concise overview that could hold me over until I could read the full book. Thankfully, there was.

As a nonfiction work with weighty themes and detailed history, I knew this book would require time and focus. But reading the summary gave me a powerful introduction—and reminded me just how valuable short-form reading can be in today’s busy world.

Empire of Pain traces the rise and reckoning of the Sackler family—one of the wealthiest and most influential dynasties in America. Known for their philanthropy in the arts and sciences, the Sacklers amassed their fortune through Purdue Pharma, the maker of the opioid painkiller OxyContin. Juli werde ich Abends mal einen Einblick in den Workflow geben, wie wir aus den Aufnahmen s der einzelnen Beiträge in Microsoft Teams mit #GenAI eine #Unkonferenz Dokumentation erstellen. Den gleichen Ansatz kann man z.B. auch verwenden, um sich für Bücher (aber auch Videos, Podcast, Paper, Studien etc.) sein eigenes #GetAbstract bzw. #Blinkist zu erstellen.

I've made an unpleasant discovery. I've been a #Blinkist subscriber for quite some time. I was disappointed when they removed their sync of highlights to #Evernote functionality (though I would have preferred a more generic option)...but now it seems they are removing books from the collection and when they do so they also make one's highlights inaccessible?!?! 😡 😭

I've canceled the auto-renewal on my membership. 😕 Anyone know more about the story behind all this?

Das Geschäftsmodell von Blinkist war immer grenzwertig parasitär, schon vor KI.

LOL, #Blinkist ersetzt jetzt auch die menschlichen Vorlesoj durch künstliche Stimmen. Ich hätte es gerade bei der letzten nicht gemerkt, wenn sie es nicht selbst über sich gesagt hätte, klang schon sehr gut.
Aber es ist klar, wohin das bei Blinkist geht: Sie scannen wahrscheinlich schon jetzt ganze Bücher nur noch mit LLMs, lassen automatisiert Zusammenfassungen erstellen und hauen dann auch noch automatisierte Audios raus.
Definitiv nichts, wofür man zahlen sollte.

In these nervous days, when #Blinkist is becoming even more elitist, humanity is suffocating from its own prosperity, poverty in Germany is at an all-time high and war, climate and AI maybe the final horsemen of the apocalypse, I hardly dare take the time to read a book.

In diesen 'ecktisch-Zeiten, wo #Blinkist immer elitärer wird, die Menschheit am eigenen Wohlstand erstickt und in Deutschland die Armut ein neues Allzeithoch erfährt sowie Krieg, Klima & KI die finalen Reiter der Apokalypse seien, wage ich kaum mir die Zeit für ein Buch zu nehmen.

Why is ist that apps like #Medium, #Blinkist, #Netflix, #ParamountPlus do not offer the simple and essential feature to filter for and view the read/watched state of articles or movies? Am I the only one who is annoyed by this? Why are the #UIs of such widely used apps so primitive and crippled that they are barely usable? Why does nobody complain about the bad #UX?

Anyone using #Blinkist the new app for thinkers and readers of #nonfiction ?

@elhotzo Bis vor kurzem hätte ich keine Ahnung gehabt, wer das ist. Nur durch Zufall auf #blinkist eine Zusammenfassung gehört und beschlossen, dass es mehr als das auch nicht braucht. Sie und ich sind uns nicht einig, was die Aufgabe eines Staates ist, denke ich.
