  1. Folks, if you get the chance to vote #blinding #headlights back off the road, please let me encourage you.

For too many years, marketers have run amok, pandering to ego-driven #excess #headlamp #brightness levels, while #standards agencies have slept. The #roads are more #dangerous for all of us as a result.

Plus they bloody hurt the eyes of many of us, and have a tiresome effect, degrading overall levels of #road #safety for everyone.

  2. Blinded by Solar Panels For a Few Minutes

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

There is an amusing situation. In the morning, when I sit at a table I get brilliant light shining into my eyes. As a result I wear sunglasses indoors. This might sound absurd but it's for a simple reason.

As roofs are covered with solar panels, so roofs that were once made of slate or clay have become mirrors. These mirrors, at the right time of day becoming blinding. You see this when you hike, as well.

You look at the valley below. You see the plastic tarps on fields, but you also see the sun reflecting off of solar panels towards you. It is no longer the reserve of rivers, ponds, and lakes to reflect light. Now, so do these solar panels.

Solar panels reflect light very well.

Years ago a brass chimney was replaced and for several days, until it tarnished, as the wind spun it around I would get flashes of light, as the wind angled the reflected sun in just the right direction for it to hit my eyes.

This is not just a terrestrial problem. In Space satellites have the same bad habit of reflecting light. They had to redesign the solar panels so that they would be less problematic for people to be able to observe the night sky.

In the time it took to write this blg post the sun has angled across enough for the reflection from those solar panels to be almost gone. I can remove the sun glasses soon.

  4. #today I wrote to Baroness Hayter in praise of her backing the revision of regulations limiting #blinding #headlights, and with luck hopefully an immediate #recall of the worst offending products.

It was good to discover her championing the cause, from this article:

  5. Good folks, I beg you to make the biggest noise you know how, against the current state of #blinding #headlights on the roads today.

My daughter and I were nearly run off the road last night by a large white belligerent tailgating SUV which was relentlessly blinding me from behind.

They're getting away with murder. We can turn this tide if we pull together.

  6. #ban #blinding #headlights

    rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-

Many car headlights are now painfully and blindingly over-bright to oncoming road users, impairing their ability to perceive other, darker hazards in field of view. Industry and market have run away for years, unchecked by sufficient experiential input. Please let's crack it, it's getting right out of hand.
