This isn't the grimy, steampunk fantasy city you prowl in Blades in the Dark. Designer Tim Denee (Deathmatch Island) spins the timeline forward 100 years and launches you into the radical, Swinging Sixties. #rpgPdfSpotlight #rpgs #bladesInTheDark #evilHatProductions

Mercy is a quality overrated. The stuff that's moving wants to kill you, and the people who want padding don't speak with their wallets. The strong provide mercy; the weak just talk about it.

Wrote some music inspired by the tabletop role playing game, 'Blades in the Dark'
Privilege: This word calls to mind the #Oxventure #BladesInTheDark campaign. I listened to in preparation for running a #Genesys game set in Doskvol. One of their PCs is Barnaby Fortescue III, a charismatic fellow (playbook: Slide) from a wealthy family whose upbringing makes him completely out of touch with the struggles of the rest of his crew. Differences in the socio-economic background of PCs can make for interesting roleplaying conflicts.

Well, looks like I’ve got my weekend sorted.
Did some more tweaking this afternoon. Now have a _really_ clean trace from inkscape. The SVG is still rough around t eh edges (literally), but here's the PNG!
I intend to render the vector down to normal paths instead of the. . .whatever it is inkscape does to do the tracing. Looking forward to figuring that out. Here's to not having to draw it all by hand!

Finally got around to playing blades in the dark and it is my new TTRPG obsession.
@risa Recently in #BladesInTheDark, we were trying to find a fence and the GM told us there was another gang with a fence. To his suprise, we took it as "you've got something we want, we have skills you need, let's work together"
@ChrisJagged check out some of the fanfiction novels written for #Bladesinthedark - very pulp fantasy
Marty is gonna be a Cutter in Blades in the Dark soon... hope Duskvol is prepared.
@thoughtpunks that's a timely article, I've been working on a game system called 'Nevermind' that is all about resource management as a depleting dice pool for doing actions and hits, which can be any type of damage, stress, consequence etc. And having a quick read of your article, that's kinda how me and my mates were playing our last #BladesintheDark campaign too, kind of similar HARM mechanics but not quite. Great article thanks for posting.
Today is #ttrpg day with the group #bladesinthedark with my #lurk and a crew of #whispers who gang. #rpg #pencilandpaper #oldschool

So, it looks like I'm opening another in-person table of #BladesInTheDark, I'm so excited :3 And one of the players already decided that they want to try and play Whisper!
Wrapped my first true-blue Blades campaign last night, after about 8 or 9 sessions. Enough time to get to get to Tier 1 and gain some serious territory, but I want to play more 🥺

So, this Saturday me and my wonderful players are meeting to resume our #BladesInTheDark #TTRPG campaign.
I'm super excited, but at the same time quite anxious - it was half a year since our last game after all.
I can't wait to see where the Children of the Dawn crew (a Cult) goes next!

Fun fact - I started watching John's original #BladesInTheDark campaign on Youtube a few weeks ago, ten years after it happened(!), and it is a fascinating experience to watch mechanics and solutions that I know and use all the time to be actually made, tested and fleshed out as it happened
Not perfect by a long way, but useable.
Buttons/UI send "I have been pressed" signal via SignalManager.
CrewManager and ScoundrelManager listen, and route as appropriate to update Data. Then emit "DataUpdated" signal.
UI listens for Updated, and redraws.
Next, I could make it a lot prettier, change UI/background by Playbook/Crew etc
Also draw data from external file (JSON?) rather than hardcoded
Playbook is coming along - mostly done.
Save seems to work.
But! load seems to work, but doesn't update UI properly. May need to rewrite quite a bit of how it works.
For individual changes, Signals bounce around a bit, updating the individual entry. But when all is loaded at once, I need to send everything, without over-writing values.
Godot - major refactor needed.
Equipment is getting quite complex, and is currently stored as a Dictionary of Dictionaries of Arrays
I'm thinking of making it a Class. But maybe a Resource?
Equipment needs to know:
Playbook/General
Name
Description
Load
is_equiped
Each item can only be instantiated once, and the only bit that ever changes is is_equiped
Advices?

Getting more muddled over how to store Stats for Blades in the Dark character sheet
I currently have a list of variables.
I keep thinking about putting things in a Dictionary, but there are several types of Data (String, Int, Array, etc), so I would need several Dictionaries. I would then need to filter incoming "stat changed" Signals to figure which Dictionary to update.
Not sure how to configure it all.
Making progress on Blades in the Dark sheets in Godot.
Still lots of work needed - can't get UI Containers to shrink/expend properly :(
Code is an absolute bolognese. I've tried to keep it component-based, but each section seems to have different requirements.
UI woes and Data Structure confuzzles are seriously frustrating me.
This makes me upset.
This puts me in a downward spiral of demotivation.
Trying hard to break out, but it's not easy.
I've made some progress, but keep hitting problems.
How do folk keep going? Any advices for keeping my sanity?

Blades in the Dark
Another new feature added: Another refactor needed!
All (not all) of my "generic" Signals are connected to ScoundrelManager.
When I connect CrewManager, I might hit some collisions.
If I do the refactor I was previously thinking of, I'll have to do some serious "is this meant for Crew or Scoundrel (or other, yet to be built, sections)?" checking.
Or rebuild it differently...
<sigh>

Save Slots
I could make Specific slots, named "Slot1", "Slot2" etc, but I'd prefer to have freeform saves, named after the Character.
I can Save as such, using ResourceSaver and passing in the Name.
But how to look at the Saves Folder, and list the file names for loading?
Is this possible?

Contacts list is working - Select a Playbook, and names/descriptions are filled in
Clicking the faces changes Relationship.
Not extracted as a Generic Node setup yet, but I've (almost) got the hang of how to that

Godot Question:
I'm trying to programmatically add a line of boxes I can click
I can add a line of boxes, but can't see how to make them respond to a click. I'd like to emit a signal
Do I have to create a Scene for the box, and connect a signal in the inspector? Or is there a way of programmatically adding a signal to each box?

Representing Clocks
I'm making an interactive Character Sheet, and looking at ways to represent Clocks (beginning with a Healing Clock)
I've considered using a Texture Button, and Clicking it moves the Segments on. Looks quite intricate tho
Any better ideas? Sprite2D, with some sort of on-click?

Progress
Started on a Blades in the Dark sheet.
Not sure how it should all be organised behind the scenes, but it's mostly working.
Getting to some more complicated bits now.
Blades in the Dark Playbook in Godot
Running into data-storage questions.
2 Current questions:
1) Save Scoundrel (etc) Data so it is available next time app is run.
2) call additional Data (e.g. list of Crews) for Scoundrel to pick from/add to.
If anyone knows resources to point to, or things to search for, please do be saying
Been loving playing Blades in the Dark as run by someone who *loves* running Blades in the Dark. Extremely different from all my previous experiences, in which the system never sang because we didn't commit to it — Blades is the sort of game where taking a cog out makes the whole machine collapse
