Deliveries of 🔸the world's first mass-produced electric vehicle equipped with a sodium-ion battery 🔸will begin in January 2024.
According to CarNewsChina, they're being produced by ♦️JAC Motors♦️a Volkswagen-backed Chinese automaker, through its new Yiwei EV brand.
From the report:
The #Yiwei #EV #hatchback will have a cylindrical 🔺sodium-ion 🔺pack from Beijing-based #HiNa #Battery and adopt JAC's UE (Unitized Encapsulation) module technology.#UE is also known as a "honeycomb design" because of its appearance.
It is another battery structure concept like #CATL's #CTP (cell-to-pack) or #BYD's #BladeBattery.
Yiwei is a new EV brand under Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC), established in 2023.
JAC's parent company, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Holdings (#JAG ), is 50% state-owned, and 50% belongs to #Volkswagen Group.
The German automotive giant acquired its stake in 2020 in an unprecedented move to invest in China's state-owned car maker.

BYD's EV Centre is the first dedicated EV Dealership in Zimbabwe and probably also the first in most of sub-Saharan Africa
BYD’s entry into Zimbabwe should help catalyze the adoption of brand new EVs, giving consumers the comfort of full service back up and warranties, which are key concerns for potential corporate customers. BYD Zimbabwe has just opened its new EV experience center as well as a service center where people are welcome to come in for a coffee and check out the EVs. They say seeing is believing, and now that consumers have an opportunity to come in and see full electric vehicles for themselves, interest is growing from corporates and fleet operators.
It has just introduced the new BYD E6 with the revolutionary Blade battery. The Blade battery uses cobalt-free LFP (LiFePO4) cells in module-less CTP (cell-to-pack) configuration. The E6 comes with a 70 kWh battery, with an estimated range of 450 km in the WLTP cycle. https://squeet.me/objects/962c3e1042c1540089004d7f17d1b7719b02e762
