  1. The Black Sphinx, Alessandro Sicioldr, 2017

there's a black sun over a black sphinx. I don't feel uplifted by the color scheme or layout but it isn't exactly a downer, either. It's maybe a severe place but there's there's some figure in white in a pool of light, and the sphinx has a tail, independent of the rock, as though it were alive and conscious? with its tail in motion. And the figure is approaching the crack in the rock, looks like an entrance (a tight fit), there must be something amazing in there, it's a special place..

  4. Really enjoying Rebecca Roanhorse’s Black Sun audiobook, the first of her series Between Earth and Sky.

It’s an epic fantasy story with all the good stuff, set in a fascinating pre-Columbian Meso-American setting that is fresh and deeply intriguing.

And such wonderful narrators! Each of them have awesome storytelling skills that make Roanhorse’s story even more epic than it already is.

I am deeply enjoying the queer representation, the really strong and complex characters, and the intricately woven plot. There doesn’t seem to be a clear good guy/bad guy trope that’s seems to be the bedrock of so many epic fantasy stories, and that’s really refreshing. It makes it so much less of a trope-ish retread. I am really going to relish this one.

    BIG thumbs up!

  9. 251 - X-Men: Black Sun #1 (9/7/2000)

I recall this being a lesser ANAD anniversary celebration. But it's got #Sunfire on the cover!

Cover by Vince Evans. Interiors by Chris Claremont & Thomas Derenick.

  12. Next up! BLACK SUN by Rebecca Roanhorse, my first foray into her work. Roanhorse is a guest of honour at Eastercon in Belfast in April, so I am making sure I’ve read at least one of her novels by then! #bookstodon #scifi #RebeccaRoanhorse #BlackSun

  16. #AmReading (okay I'll be honest it's always #justRead) #BlackSun by Rebecca Roanhorse. First epic fantasy I've read in a long time, and affirmed my hypothesis that it wasn't high fantasy I was sick of, but medieval europe.

Well, mostly. :P it's been a long time since I read a book designed for a trilogy so was unprepared for the book to end but for elements of the story to be unresolved. But other than that highly recommend. No themes of good vs evil, a non-moralistic depiction of religion and magic.

  21. Caught up with #ImageComics #Massiveverse current titles. For the whole shared universe I find myself rising and falling with interest, but it still manages to pull of some awesome narratives and cool twists on the superhero genre. #BlackSun and #RadiantBlack are the better titles imo as I dropped #TheDeadLucky, the Radiant Black spin offs, and #NoOne. But it’s still really cool to see a shared universe not of Big 2 origin take off this well!
