  1. Sometimes more is not better. I went a bit mad with my #BitwigStudio preset yesterday and made a much more complex version that I thought would more faithfully mimic the #Buchla248, but all it did was generate sadness by becoming unusable.

So I stripped it back and focused on what I could do with the Stack Spread options and I have something I am pretty happy with. It's more than the basic prototype and a number of issues have been addressed and now it is capable of making a lot of fun noises and rhythms.

The Polymetric Polyphonic Spaceship of the Mind is nearing completion. I just need to decide if I will share it and write up some instructions. Who am I kidding? I'll probably get to that tonight.

  2. I've been obsessed with the #Buchla #248 #MARF and the incredible sequencing that it can do. There is an amazing #VCVRack interpretation of #SuzanneCiani's #BuchlaCookBook and I had a brain wave two days ago while staring at the ceiling in the hospital (I am home now).

What we have here is my first audio demo of my #AS248Sequencer. It's a bodged #MARF-Lite where I have movement, multiple play-heads (3 in this case) and have made my own versions of the "Ciani Sequences" from the Cook Book. There's complex oscillations and low-pass gates. All in #BitwigStudio. It is ridiculously fun to perform on and hours roll by and my mind wanders to the good places.

I can be a little loud at parts so mind your ears!

  3. There’s this amazing #TipTop #Buchla #Eurorack panel that has just come out. It’s the #248 #MARF. It’s ridiculously cool, powerful and expensive.

Now that I know I can make controls in #BitwigStudio I am looking forward to developing a #performative #ElectronicMusic setup that is based on #SuzanneCiani’s #BuchlaCookbook following the most excellent #Pyer #VCVRack emulation.

  4. So sorry! Was silence. Have re-rendered.

Eerie #Winter #ElectronicMusic ideas generated from #BitwigStudio and #VCVRack with the #Venjolin module. I've routed my to work with #Plaits, loads of #ChronoBlob delay and #Plateau reverb.

  9. There's a new #VCVRack paid module set from #Venom and there's this new #Benjolin module closely modelled after the #AfterLater module. I've made a nice rig in #BitwigStudio where I can perform it from my MIDI fader controller and using an FX Grid patch for signal processing of MIDI it is all very smooth and lovely to work with.

I also discovered that presently only the #VST2 plugin for #VCVRack works as expected from session to session (Clap and VST3 do some very weird and unwanted things).

So here is a 5 minute ramble into the void from this morning.

  10. @mntmn @decibyte #BitwigStudio and #VCVRack. I wish I could get #AudioModelling’s #SwamHorns working on Linux, but the licensing software makes it too hard.

  11. i just gave myself an easter present. since ableton isn't getting their shit together and produce a native linux version of ableton live, i just bought bitwig studio. i got a great deal (valid until 7th of april) where i just had to proof that i bought the latest version of ableton live and got the bitwig studio license for 199€ instead of 399€.

  12. I’m excited to share my remix of Michael A Studer’s "Saturn Satellite" with you. 😎

It will be available on all major music platforms soon and is already available on Bandcamp today: covertacoustics.bandcamp.com/t

  13. #LinuxAudio friends - are any of you using #HarrisonMixbus, and are any of you also familiar with #AirwindowsConsolidated

I've tried a demo of Mixbus (you just download and install it and run it in demo mode) and much looks familar, but crickey does it feel complicated in comparison to #BitwigStudio and despite the low entry cost I am happy with my current workflow (Bitwig).

What am I really asking? I'm thinking about #AudioEngineering and #MasteringAudio. I am confident in doing this for my own tracks, but when it comes to applying any sort of editorial decisions to tracks made by anyone else I find myself unsure and thinking "maybe they wanted it that way."

I would like to develop my skills and be able to say with any confidence that I have any clue of what I am doing and I am reluctant to throw myself down a rabbit hole of click-bait titled YT videos.

  14. For #BoardsOfCanada fans out there, you might be interested in this gem from 1996 as 'liberated' by an interested party and made available for enjoying through YouTube. This is called "A Few Old Tunes" and apparently, as the story goes, an original cassette was purchased at great expense from a music store, and then digitised with the finest contemporary techniques.

This is one of those places where #qpwgraph could be employed to play YouTube directly into #BitwigStudio to allow one to bootleg their own local copy.

  15. #LinuxAudio win. #qpwgraph making internal wiring possible is a sweet discovery - and means I can create a named input in #BitwigStudio and directly record out of Chrome.

This make SDR exploration recording direct to a track.

    Or pretty much anything else!

The connections in qpwgraph need rebuilding if you close the tab, but this is trivial to do.

  16. I've got a #BitwigStudio preset that is inspired by #MutableInstruments #Blades. It seems a natural offshoot of my #ShermanikFilterbank to explore other #TwinPeakFilter types.

I hope to have some demos and a web page for this in the next few days.

It might fit well on the #BonkWave #SampleChallenge

  17. It is most reassuring that I have been able to get my workflow back in place for #BitwigStudio for #Linux #ElectronicMusicProduction again.

It's been just over 3 months since I moved away from Windows and there were some moments where overwork at the brewery and holiday business fatigue had me worried that I had might not find my muse again.

I am pleased to report that #weird sounds are again flowing from my fingertips.

Is it #BonkWave or #NotBonkWave - time will tell and I want to finish it first so I don't want to spoil the surprise.

  18. I bought myself a #BlackFriday special of the 2025 #SamplesFromMars items. I really like how these enthusiasts are using historic gear and are producing vinyl and tape #music archives to then resample and offer as part of their packs. There are some sweet sounds in there. They are fun for working with in #BitwigStudio for #ElectronicMusicProduction and possibly in the search for #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave sounds.

  19. @mosgaard thank you for your kind words. I’ve written what I would have liked to refer to when I was new to this.

    I now have a responsive workstation where I can explore #Linux driven #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave #ElectronicMusicProduction in #BitwigStudio.

And I use it for all my other needs too.

  20. I installed Pipewire-Jack, qpwgraph, QuickEMU and QuickGUI on my #LinuxMint test installation this morning.

All versions of #BitwigStudio now can play audio and other sources are able play concurrently now.

Next is to explore the possibilities of #VirtualMachines for cross platform interests.

    So far, so good.

  21. My #LinuxAudio journey is continuing and so far, so good in #LinuxMint. I have multiple versions of #BitwigStudio installed alongside one another. My goal of creative #ElectronicMusicProduction on #Linux is nearing a fully functional state.

And everything is working. This time I am taking notes and saving snippets of code to my website. Anyone else wishing to replicate this (it is a work in progress) can check out my notes over here: ambientspace.com/technical-not

  22. This is where I make #BonkWave and #NotBonkWave and also #HonkWave - on the display is #BitwigStudio and #VCVRack is open and showing a most excellent #Benjolin patch. This is being controlled and performed via a BCF2000 MIDI Fader Control. Sharp eyed observers may also notice that there is a French Horn track in Bitwig.

I like to perform a texture bed of sound with the Benjolin and then improvise horn lines over the top. Sometimes percussion finds its way for a time and then is removed. Or not.

Down below and in front of my keyboard is a home-made alternative ergonomic device which I call the "Wristiplinarian" - an alternating row of 25 1-inch chrome spikes affixed to a strip of black leather that I made around 27 years ago and have had at my keyboard ever since. It works a treat for keeping your wrists up and fingers depending gracefully over the keys (my #carpal #RSI has been pretty much gone the entire time it has been there).

  27. I don't remember who asked me about the #bitwigstudio #keyboard input issue that I mentioned when I was still on #manjaro.

Today, I came across crash logs indicating that "ibus-x11" can crash when Bitwig Studio is run on a #wayland session, resulting in Bitwig Studio losing keyboard input capability.

I did not have this problem on #archlinux anymore because #ibus is not installed by default and must be installed separately.

  32. Out of the blue, my #akaipro MPK261 #midi keyboard started causing problems with #bitwigstudio 5.3.13.
As long as BWS isn't running, it works fine (via an external, powered USB hub).

As soon as BWS is running, the controller loses power from time to time. BWS then reports:

    MIDI Input Error:
MPK261 Port A: Error Polling MIDI Input: Success

I tried using both the official Controller Script and without a script at all. I tried direct connection to the PC as well. 🤔

  33. My #PlugData exploration continues this morning with an envelope follower and noise gate controls for ADSR. Converting these signals into something meaningful which modulates the filter cutoff frequencies and resonance will probably require some tinkering, but it is immensely handy to have my #BitwigStudio patch open in the background to refer to.

What is fascinating to me are the convenient blocks in PlugData (and associated #WastedAudio #HeavyLib features) that require slightly different approaches in PlugData vs BitwigStudio.

  34. Post post postscript. Clearly there are things that happen to semiconductors as they age and so I have added an "Age" modulator that introduces random cross-modulated wiggles that attenuate in the longer the gate is open. #Wibbly #ElectronicMusicProduction in #BitwigStudio and ideal for #BonkWave - whew.

Time for bed and dreaming of making some exciting music.

  35. Post postscript. Today my #ShermanFilterbank is behaving more typically today. Dirty pot made better by using? Switching and turn it back on again?

More critical listening shows I was close but not on the mark yesterday. Today? A lot closer. I want to add some basic switches to adjust the envelope follower to smooth it and attenuate in heavy signal conditions.

  41. My goodness, I am back in Reason remastering old tracks. OMFG it is no Bitwig Studio, but it’s the DAW that I started in back in the day.

Yeah there’s a ‘Best of Synaptyx [Remastered 2025]’ coming, but it’ll be a while. I’m just figuring out the best way to do it. I’m thinking get the stems out of Reason and master in Bitwig, but it’s kind of fun exercising the old Reason muscle memories, idk, we’ll see how it shakes out.

  42. My #Linux journey continues. A couple of hours of noodling has #LinuxMint looking and feeling very comfortable. Installing #VCVRack required a little bit of 'sudo fu' and some permissions fun so that the #VST showed up in #BitwigStudio - I will need to figure out how to make an executable script to launch VCV Rack in standalone rather than using the command prompt, but that should not prove to be too daunting #LinuxAudio - and so I am ready to start digging into some #ElectronicMusicProduction
