  1. “Accidentally” adding extra #bitters to your #OldFashioned means you get to make it into a nice big Triple or Quadruple shot, which in turn makes your Saturday afternoon #HoneyDoList much more pleasant.

  2. Thanks a lot Google. Hey Mastodon, do bitters need to be refrigerated? #bitters #alcohol #AskMastodon

  3. #Booze delivery! In preparation for our upcoming trip to Serbia I decided to see if it was possible to get a bottle of my long-desired Serbian bitter (pelinkovac) Gorki List. Turns out it now has US distribution in Illinois! I mail-ordered a bottle, plus some Bourbon that had no distribution out here — Heaven Hill 7-year bonded Bourbon! #whiskey #spirits #pelinkovac #bitters #bourbon

  4. The key to a good Manhattan is fresh vermouth. Buy only small bottles of the good stuff and store in the refrigerator for no more than a couple months.

2 oz #Whiskey (Old Overholt Bottled-in-Bond Straight Rye)
1 oz Sweet #Vermouth (Carpano Antica Formula)
    2 dash Angostura #bitters

Stir down ingredients over ice and pour into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

  5. Anybody here distill their own alcohol? I'm interested in learning how and don't know exactly what to get for a still. #still #distilling #alcohol #moonshine #bitters

  6. Today, instead of baking bread (maybe tomorrow?), i'm making Abbott's Bitters, because our stock has run out. I'm using Darcy O'Neil's (drnk.ca/@dsoneil) brilliant recreation and method as shown in his video here, which uses an extraction method instead of the lengthier maceration method. #Cocktails #Bitters #ScienceProjects #SundayFunday

  7. @LifeTimeCooking I gave up coffee for a few years, but lately have resumed 1 mug of coffee on Wednesdays and weekends. Otherwise (and thus a 4-3 majority), I drink a mug of tea in the morning.

Afternoon and evening drink is water over ice, generally with a few dashes of some kind of bitters in the water for flavor — chocolate bitters right now.

  8. This evening’s cocktail: The Negroni Spagliato Spritz

    1 oz Campari
    1 oz sweet red vermouth
4 oz Prosecco (or in this case cremante - whatever bubbly you have on hand)
    Dash Angostura orange bitters
Orange peel garnish (I don’t have this tonight)

Very refreshing, with the delicious bitter profile of a classic Negroni, but much lower alcohol content (Prosecco instead of gin), so one can guzzle a few. I think this might be my summer cocktail of 2023.

If we are asking “technically” here, then technically for a drink to be called a #cocktail, it has to include #bitters. This was the accepted standard until American #Prohibition, then all bets were off.

Original definition: Spirit of any kind, sugar, water, bitters. With the “bitters” being what differentiates a “cocktail” from a “sling” 😉

  10. #CocktailOfTheWeek

    Champagne Cocktail
    - 6 ounces #champagne
    - 1 whole cube sugar
    - 4 dashes #Angostura #Bitters
    Garnish: Lemon twist

Saturate a sugar cube with bitters and drop it into an empty champagne flute. Slowly fill with champagne to prevent foam-over.

  11. #CocktailOfTheWeek

    Renaissance
    - 2 ounces #brandy
    - 1 ounce sweet vermouth
    - 1/4 ounce #limoncello
    - 2 dashes peach bitters
    Garnish: Lemon twist

Stir with ice. Strain into a #cocktail glass.

As we all know, #bitters are a crucial ingredient for many #cocktails. A few old recipes referred to (defunct) peach bitters. When Fee Brothers began producing them I took it on myself to see if I could come up with a few cocktails that might be able to make good use of it.

  13. @Kellyshenanigans Try playing with #bitters. There are lots of flavours, and can be combined with herbs (mint, orange leaves, kafir lime, fresh basil...) and fruit (cranberries, oranges, lemons) in some soda or tonic H2O...

These are what is commonly referred to as “aromatic bitters” similar (but still different) to #angostura. Traditionally they are used in #whiskey #cocktails (where orange #bitters would typically be used in #gin cocktails). They would work great in a #Manhattan.
