After visiting #Birnbeck 10th Jul 23 during a storm, I decided to return. Weather was brighter, drier, but wind[gale] was strong.
Armed with #NikonF90X - sans battery grip, loaded with #RolleiRetro80S #BnW #film #Nikkor50mm f1.8, #MinoltaVILightMeter & #tripod, I proceeded to shoot a whole roll.🙂
Due to raging Anno-Domino, after a few times kneeling down using the tripod my legs were jelly and I was hit by a branch!🤕
However, I managed to keep going with my #FujifilmXT2 #Fuijnon35mmf2RWR.📷

I'm still shooting whilst #sheltering under the triangular overhang - shown in one the pictures below - which is supported by two metal columns, of the shop/tea room near the end of the old #Birnbeck #Pier as the rain deluged down.

I went out this afternoon headed for #Birnbeck. I got there, parked up and got my gear - a camera /lens I got last week, so still familiarising with them, a #Grolshupp GCS1810 monopod and #Cullman ball & socket. Spots of rain fell!

I took a couple of shots of the old #pier - as the sky darkened, #lightening discharged and #thunder boomed. Then the rain deluged down and I found a tiny place I could, just about, cover under.

I'm down on the shore at Birnbeck here. Looking at the erosion.

I can imagine that one more freezing winter and this lot could be down on the ground.

And, if you notice the street lamp up top, that's the edge of Kewstoke Toll Road[no tolls paid nowadays though].

The local authorities, with the aid of business sponsors, are now starting to address the issue of dangerous railings with new fencing at Birnbeck.

'A Race Against the Tide'
I tuned around from photographing the Tea Garden to saw these youngsters trying to get around and under the pier - literally racing the tide. Even crossing under the pier is now highly risky with rusting chunks simply falling of it without warning. And, did they make it? Who knows. Other have tried and failed in the past!

'The end of the Birnbeck Tea Garden'

Several tons of scalpings have been deposited against the end wall of the burned-out Tea Garden building. You walk over these stones now as part of the footpath down to the shoreline - which I'm stood on.
In the middle of the photo you can clearly see the tidal front on it's way into Clevedon Bay and the mud-flat it is covering.

The silt laden tidal waters of the Bristol Channel, combined with it's eight meter average rise & fall, is very abrasive and erodes anything man made - relentlessly.
If a structure is not maintained it is slowly decomposed; without quarter.
