It's May 1st! And I just took my bird feeders down (lots for them to eat here in Maine).

So, I'm liking the polymerized linseed-beeswax-tallow combination. I used it to waterproof a metal birdbath that had some rust -- after sanding it down, then spray-painting it with some non-toxic, VOC-free paint and letting it cure. I'll be using the linseed mixture on the wooden bird feeders once I take them down for the season. I'll clean them up, make a minor repair on one of them, do a light sanding, then will apply the mixture.

@danie10 @dannyman Apparently birds have UV vision that works even at night, so why not paint #justthetip (hehehe) in such a color, or a fluorescent color so people can see it also — might be useful for flying drones, kites, ultralights, etc. RAF planes had yellow propeller tips for safety of people on the tarmac... That propeller scene in #RaidersOfTheLostArk (which freaked me out as a teen) was a German plane, of course, which didn't have that! #birdsafety #windpower
