In honor of the Tawny Frogmouth's recent 2nd place showing in #GuardianAustralia #BirdOfTheYear2023 I present this picture from 2017 of the only time I saw one in the wild. My mum (deceased 2021) did a crayon drawing of Gouldian Finches in the 1990s, after a visit to the NT. This week I’ve been voting for them in The Guardian Australian bird of the year 2023. Today I voted for the Hooded Plover, Thinornis cucullatus, as Australian bird of the year 2023. I’ve photographed them a few times so they have a place in my heart. Endangered of course because they nest on beaches.
